Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen (R) is seeing himself out.
The embattled Republican announced on Monday that he won’t seek reelection after he was caught on tape asking an activist to take down members of his own party and subsequently lost the backing of many influential figures in his caucus.
“The embattled Republican announced on Monday that he won’t seek reelection after he was caught on tape asking an activist to take down members of his own party and subsequently lost the backing of many influential figures in his caucus.”
Bonnen made a mistake in not telling everyone this behavior is normal.
[“After much prayer, consultation, and thoughtful consideration with my family, it is clear that I can no longer seek re-election as State Representative of District 25, and subsequently, as Speaker of the House,” Bonnen said.]
Good. Now time for us take back as much of the Texas Legislature as we can, before redistricting. They’ve made it very, very difficult with their gerrymandering, but the electorate is changing.
he’s actually neither, a moderate would never rise to power in the Texas Republican Party and his bigotries are less racial than they are towards anyone who would interfere with his grab for money and power.
Currently, Republicans hold an 83-67 advantage in the Texas House, meaning a gain of 8 seats gives the D’s and R’s a tie. Of the R-held seats, it looks like about 20-25 are in play, where the D won over 40% in the last election. My guess is that the rulers of the House Republicans saw those numbers, panicked, and sent one of their gunsels to the Speaker with the message, “Turn right, punish moderate R’s attack D’s as socialists/communists/anarchists/ Californians. Do this or we kill you politically.” Bonnen decided it was time to get the hell out of Tombstone before the Clanton’s got to town.
TX House Speaker committed Quid Pro Quo/takedown against his otherThugs-R-Us Party members…and his party turned against him.
The Extortionist-In-Chief has also committed Quid Pro Quo and other unlawful crimes against our country and humanity eg facilitating genocide, gaslighting Americans about it and endangering our national security…
And as far as we know, the TX HS actions was less egregious compared to the ALL of the Extortionist-In-Chief’s unlawful actions…so will the Senate Thugs-R-Us make an IMPEACHED CONVICT out of the Extortionist-In-Chief?
Right out of The Maltese Falcon, so called by Sam Spade, played by Elisha Cook, Jr. The kind of Texas Republican operative that visits politicians and scares them by pretending to reach for a gun inside his suit coat.
