A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), whose state is positively drowning in COVID-19 cases, is up in arms after Biden said that governors like him who ban mask mandates need to “get out of the way.”
DeSantis better be running for President because his pro-Covid agenda is so disliked he is probably done in Florida. His position before we had effective vaccines doesn’t play too well in the post vaccine world.
Nearly half of Americans (48%) support expanding the Supreme Court, according to a new [poll] by Marquette University Law School.
I think it makes a lot of sense to change the Supreme Court to allowing each president to appoint two justices and rotate into retirement after 12-18 years. However the numbers work out.
Right now, each Supreme Court Justice opening is such a random and infrequent event that the fights are far too political and far too bruising for the good of the Court.
Looking back at that Florida Governor election it is really getting to be next to impossible to believe that the other guy had the most profound substance abuse & mental stability issues …
Florida, like Texas, is morphing into some weird banana republic, with leaders snubbing science and common sense and taking their populace down paths of destruction. Yet the citizens keep returning Governors to office promising the very destruction we see. They’re given the chance every four years to elect a person that will advance their best interests, yet don’t.
We’re starting to see pushback in Oklahoma about our governor’s cowardly approach to Covid and his acquiescence to the most insane members of the GOP. I hope that’s happening in Florida as well. Oklahoma likes to think of itself as a local control state, but they have worked this year to make it impossible for communities to react to specific needs due to the pandemic. Bastards.
I’m also wondering how many other times this coroner has catered to special interests on his death certificates. I know people who have deliberately obfuscated the cause of death in obituaries and funeral services for “insurance” reasons, so perhaps they could convince this guy to lie about a cause of death. His claim that he doesn’t lie for them and the idea that it was the limitations on visitation that made it so unbearable seem just a little too precious. On the other hand, perhaps they do have an insurance limitation that would limit payout in this area.
But yikes. Really. Yikes.
Expanding the SC to match the number Federal Court Districts (currently 13) would add 4 more people to the rotation. Over time this simply means more retirements. In addition to this it likely means Justices may feel less pressure to stay on as there would be a more healthy churn of people.
Then wee don’t have to fight the constitutional concern regarding lifetime appointments
