Archives Unsure Trump Gave Up All Gov’t Records, Congress Says

When the Justice Department searched Mar-a-Lago last month, it found not only reams of documents, but empty folders, marked classified.

Of course he didn’t give them all back. That would be the action of a normal human being. On to Bedminster!

Per emptywheel, this might be a means to get around Judge Cannon’s “you may not look at those records!” imperative:

This request from Maloney gives Steidel Wall cause to intervene and to do so on fairly urgent timeline. She has a legitimate request from Congress, after all!

Maloney said that there was “serious risk” that more records remain with Trump.

Of course Trump is still hiding ever more government records. That’s not a matter of dispute.

It is a fair assessment that he’s holding more government documents. Glad to see Maloney and her committee involved. Trump is a grave risk to national security.

They can find out. Classified documents are not just stuck in a SCIF and that’s it. They are all registered so that inventory can be conducted. All that needs to be done is look at the receipt of classified docs by Trump over his 4 year term ( there is such a record ) then hunt for them. They are all numbered and tracked. I can’t see what there’s such a fuss about this unless it’s all turned to shit up there and no one knows WTF to do.

This is what I wonder about. There also has to be a digital trail for these documents. Was the Trump Syndicate smart enough to erase it?

I sincerely hope the FBI is searching all trump properties, and we’re just not hearing about it because the ex-president, past/present traitor has chosen to meet secretly with his lawyers on the golf course, and not blab-blab-blab it around like he did with the mar-a-lardo search.

I agree. We have no idea. Have ANY of the Trump attorneys sign off that ‘all has been returned’ and use the inability to verify as a reason to search ALL Trump properties again and again. IF they find one piece of paper arrest the lawyer under ‘false statements’ to FBI.

I hope every lawyer who ever worked for Trump loses his/her license.

Why should he give up what’s his? L’état, c’est lui.

Stop treating Trump and the Republican Party politely. The potential for real national security issues may be in play, and the GOP, the former party of law and order who ran on national security issues, died decades ago. Stop treating them as if they are a reasonable group. Where are the GOP voices? It’s OK for Trump to even have access to secret files outside of his office? What the hell? Enough already.

And now Graham’s touting the GOP’s desire to ban abortion everywhere in the country? They may wish that, but it is mainly a misdirection tactic in an attempt to change the public narrative that they can’t win - namely that they and Trump don’t deserve to lead this country. There are no moderate Republicans. Or perhaps I should just say, I can’t hear you… Effectively the same thing.

Fight multiple fronts in public view. Push them all out of the political picture starting now. Use facts and burry them. And when we start to feel bad and that we’ve made the points we’ve wanted, we then need to double down on our collective efforts. On multiple fronts.

I’d like to see a set of Democratic political pit bulls who each need to adopt one of these issues and daily pound the Republicans in the media. Non-stop. Facts, just the facts. Time to do some educating…

I don’t think you can erase it. If he’s got docs and they can’t track it the problem is illegal removal from the doc’s authorized space.

IOW, “We’re certain that he’s lying and still has stuff, but as a government agency have to be delicate in the word choice to avoid all our families receiving death threats”.

Time for more grand jury subpoenas so he can do more criminal obstruction.

I’d have thought that anyone in the military or intelligence who last had classified documents in their hands before they ended up with the stubby fingered vulgarian would have documented it left right and sideways that he stole them from them, to cover their own ass and future career. But given the number of true believers, maybe they didn’t

THey need to search all his properties. Now.

Time to have EVERY DEM and media scribbler to refer to Trump’s “STOLEN documents” every time they are mentioned!

These are not secret documents, classified documents, nor retained documents, they are STOLEN documents!

Of course he didn’t return all the documents. You can be sure of that. I guarantee it. He’s a pig and needs to be treated accordingly. He has committed a crime. By any reasonable measure a major crime. You know or you should know the drill here. You issue an arrest warrant, you place him in custody and make him prove he no longer has any of our property. His crime is so obvious, beyond debate, the presumption of innocence is laughably naive. Stop treating him like a regular citizen. He is a serial criminal, a perjurer, a thief, a major tax cheat. A scofflaw. Put him in irons and let him negotiate his release from a small room at Rikers. Pictures show him meeting some of his hencemen at Bedminster, out on a green fer chrissakes! Why do you think he would do that? No hidden microphones! Have you ever heard of the Apalachin mob meeting? Samey samo.

Could be a move to get the entire thing moved to DC?

Got a good place to start:

Venue is only fixed in DC per the PRA when a former president files suit to dispute the Archivist’s decision on an executive privilege issue. There is no magic way to yoink Judge Cannon out of the dispute.

That is not to say that DOJ can’t do collateral stuff that will effectively remove Judge Cannon’s veto power. Indicting Fat Boy in DC would effectively do that.
