AOC Wants ‘Uncomfortable’ Concessions From Biden To Party’s Left Flank | Talking Points Memo

Well said. I’m not Biden People, that’s for damned sure. I was pointing out his flaws and why he never should have decided to enter the race at his age, all the way through the early part of the primaries. I still wish it had been Harris, or Warren. But Biden is our nominee, and he now has my full support.

The ONLY thing that matters now is beating Trump. We don’t get there by making conciliatory gestures to those who lost in the Democratic primary; gestures that could harm our chances in the general election.

Jeez, AOC, lighten up. The world is going to be completely different as a result of the virus. You’ll need to be on your toes, working with everyone you can, to help make things better. Not to mention that you’ve got a rather lengthy, productive career ahead of you. Lighten up.

I agree that demanding “a stop to all deportations” would be silly – but the reference in the article is to an actual exchange that occurred five months ago:

[1] “The fact is that over those eight years, there were 3 million people that were deported and separated from their families,” Rojas said.

[2] Cutting Rojas off, Biden said,
“You should vote for Trump. You should vote for Trump.”

“No, no. I’m not going to do that,” Rojas responded.

  1. Maybe you think asking why "3 million [were] deported and separated from their families” is the same as demanding an end to all deportations. I’m not so sure.

  2. Can you think of a more stupid response to the comment than the one Biden came up with? If so, I’d like to see it.

Bullshit. Voters rejected Bernie Sanders – in large part because he’s not actually a Democrat. But the policies Sanders advocated remain highly popular.

Yours was easily predicted too. Remember all the Sanders people reaching out to the moderates/center when the Sanders folks thought they had it after Nevada? Me neither. Don’t remember that at all.

I believe that AOC understands this.

I’m a regular Nostradamus.

Very good. By editing, my joke no long makes sense…

…as well as a chance to make a useful/amusing/insightful point

These statements are not only irrelevant and inaccurate; they also do not hide your inability to answer the questions raised.

That you find certain questions “tiresome” is not difficult to believe.

Sleep well.

AOC is late. Biden was reaching out to Bernie and the progressive left before Sanders suspended his campaign.

As far as I know Ms. Ocasio is Puerto Rican. Most Californian Latinos are Mexican. Then we have Cubans, Dominicans and others. To say Bernie had support from this group is to lump them all together. Stereotyping in the worst way.

No. Just, NO. Enough with the worries about the Sanders supporters. Too many people have died. When will these Bernie folks get it ffs! Trump is a threat unlike any other in American history. Anyone is better and we MUST do whatever it takes, bear whatever burden to get rid of him. And now, especially now, with our friends and loved ones dying, those of us who watched many of Bernie’s far left supporters work to put Trump in office are not in a mood to hear more of the same from AOC. Frankly, with the impact of this disaster in her own backyard, she is a bit tone deaf to bring this up just now. Please AOC, for your own good, just shut up with the divisive talk.

My point exactly.

Joe is a special candidate in a very special position. In his extraordinary run starting with the SC Primary, he was drawing people in a coaltion of voters…most of whom were making concessions themselves.

With his decades of experience in the political arena (compared with Ocasio’s neophyte status), finding a place for her in the coaliton will be far easier than it seems to be in this article (which has proven to be great click-bait)…

You believe that Sanders supporters thought the nomination was sewn up after Nevada?

Memory is such a funny thing.
See? I remember that same tactic back in February. Of 2016.

Some refuse to learn from recent history. Or their own mistakes.

I was prepared to be very cranky about this but the full article sounds much more reasonable than the headline.

Former Vice President Joe Biden is going to have to make some “uncomfortable” concessions to win over the party’s left flank in 2020, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said in an interview published Monday.

I was also going to attend the “Susan Sarandon Election Strategy Workshop”, but got involved with installing a patio deck.

I think it is fair to say to no small number did think that…

The Economist where radical punditry is not in vogue definitely hinted it…
