Not at all. Love her, but she’s also got some learning to do on the art of the possible. Needs to focus on winning this election, then we can play around with radical ideas.
AOC can tell the former V.P. what to do when she is re-elected for the FIRST TIME (by a tiny borough in NYC.)
She has way too much influence in the “Twitterverse” and nothing at all in Congress.
Consider the source and move along.
Deep down inside, AOC knows that a political enemy like †Я☭mp is a great foil to expand her notoriety. A Pres. Biden changes the dynamic. This is a conundrum for her, of course. Hence the waffling inherent in her statement.
Yeah, no kidding. The “hey you kids, get off of my lawn” sentiment is strong here.
Has no one ever heard of public statements as a negotiating tactic?
We don’t need Bernie supporters to like Biden or his policies well enough to vote for him. What we need is for them to realize what another 4 years of Trump would be like, and then vote to kick Trump out of office.
If we can take the Senate too, then we can all start talking about moving even further left. Not before.
Methinks that Joe will have a conversation with AOC…and the issue will be resolved.
[People sometimes underestimate the value of experience of older people
People sometimes underestimate the weaknesses of lack of experience of younger people.]
And it may take more than one conversation.
In the meantime, Donald Trump will continue to solidify his position as the candidate Democrats and persuadable Independents are the most eager to defeat
Joe has been in Democratic politics for half a century, and at all times he has been in favor of whatever the consensus of the Democratic Party has been. That consensus has never been more progressive than it is right now. If the Berners would just shut down their bullshit, they could actually get some of their stuff accomplished.
Exactly. Lower it to 60. Rinse, repeat. And then rinse, repeat. And then…
I think he should promise to fix ruined lives. Many people have had lives of dedicated service to the USA broken by Trump out of spite or cruelty. How many distinguished diplomatic corps folks were burned over Trump’s Ukrainian hustle? Military? Captan Crozier. Lt. Col. Vindman. FBI folks? Andrew McCabe and others. Intell guys.
Biden should pledge to make these people whole again. Restore their rank and positions and pensions.
AOL?
You still getting CD’s in the mail?
At the moment I am inclined to agree.
Has Biden at least taken his previous statements about how productively he works with Republicans and re-worded them ever-so-slightly?
“Naif” or collaborator?
Neither, I hope – assuming he defeats Trump.
Funny, you captured the one thing I fear most about Joe…
Brilliant, if it was intentional…
Edit: I guess it wasn’t
“Perfect is the enemy of good.”
- 2020 Democratic primary race that Joe Biden won
My gut reaction to this is, “Uncomfortable concessions” are a two-way street; and it would seem fair just based on raw vote totals that the losing (winning) side should come about 60% (40%) of the way toward the winning (losing) side. But of course this discussion is completely silly on its face, as it ignores the very existence of the right wing and the enormous pool of voters we would lose by going too much farther left than we already have. The left is faced with a binary choice between a pretty darned liberal center-left candidate and a far-right fascist. IF they actually care about the people they claim to represent, who would be hurt most by a 2nd Trump term, which is not at all obvious to me, then it would seem to me that they should get on board with the center-left candidate without preconditions. I mean, I take a backseat to no one in my visceral loathing of Trump and Trumpism, but ultimately I do more or less fine under either GOP or Dem economic policies. So if the left wants to cut its own throat with these kinds of purity games, it’s no skin off my a*$$. But eventually I’d very much like to see this country become a bit more civilized, and that will require more people to start approaching politics and voting like grownups. I’m not holding my breath.
They are not doing anything of the sort.
The party’s left flank is itself very diverse. Regardless of what Biden agrees to, there will be unsatisfied progressives.
Everyone in the party will want his/her special interests included in the party platform. AOC’s just trying to get close to the head of the queue.
Exactly true but they don’t see politics as the art of the possible; they see politics as they make demands and they either happen or they don’t. If people (the American people) don’t give into their demands then they allow things to get really bad until we’ve all learned our lesson. That lesson being that they were right all along.
And to be fair, her opponents – Democrats and Republicans – often make the same mistake about her, or pretend to.
That’s all it takes…
Their failure proves their point, ad nauseam.
Not quite. For me, it’s ‘get out of here, without 60 Democratic Senators, we will not see the Medicare eligibility age raised by one day let alone 5 or 15 years’
It’s 'get out of here, shouldn’t we defeat Trump first?’
