AOC, Pelosi To Meet Friday After Turbulent Few Weeks

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will meet Friday after the freshman congresswoman reached out presumably to smooth out some tensions lingering from a few weeks ago.

Nice for optics but I don’t think anyone expects anything substantive.

Pelosi, the Queen of the Donor Class, is going to learn that AOC is one member she can’t buy.

And that is why Pelosi can’t stand her.

There’s such a focus on this relationship between AOC and Pelosi. Could the perceived animosity have something to do with stereotypes of how women work together? Nah. Not in 2019, surely

Oh, George, there is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in your Pete Seeger vinyls. That won’t be the dynamic at all. Have you no experience of two smart, pragmatic people sitting down to discuss where they differ on tactics and goals? Probably 85 percent of the perceived conflict here is imagined by people who can think only in melodramatic terms of absolute good and evil. Also it makes a media narrative if you’re a lazy hack. But I’ll bet you a thousand bucks to your nickel that to the extent there’s any meaningful conflict at all they spend their time looking for common ground and things they can work together on. Shit, she’s willing to work with Ted Cruz on things like that. Does that make her literally Satan? No? Then maybe if you value your nickels you should decline this bet.

I remember when AOC announced that she wanted to find candidates to primary Democratic incumbents who voted with Republicans.

3 days later, Pelosi’s DCCC announced that it would blacklist any consultants that provided services to primary challengers.

That is all you need to know. Pelosi is an out-of-touch, money-corrupted, and entitled one-percenter Democrat.

AOC is the future of the Party. Pelosi needs to go.

And don’t diss Pete Seeger!

“I’m looking forward to it,” Pelosi said. “I have a steady stream of members coming through my office and I’ll look forward to her visit as well.”

Taking the first shot.

Ocasio-Cortez struck a similar tone, saying that “It’s nothing too climactic — just trying to make sure we have an open line of communication and get on the same page.”

Taking the next shot.

This thing where you believe single isolated bits of confirmatory information and n=1 correlations are “all you need to know” is kinda the problem with the left in a nutshell.

Gee, justice democrats have their own organization and treat everyone outside the group as enemy. Don’t pretend they’re helpless. They’re not individuals oppressed by the big DCCC machine. Only people like Lipinski’s challenger are justified to complain about the DCCC policy (she belongs to neither the JD machine nor the DCCC machine).

AOC and Pelosi are just getting together for a few shots of vodka before the break, to toast the success of their “fracture” in both the public narrative and in getting Trump to deliver what they needed.

Turbulent?

Come on. The man single-handedly started the movement that saved the Hudson River, and the sight of the Clearwater on that River was something to behold every day it was out on the water. Seeger stood for something. Many things. But coming from the Hudson River Valley, I remember him very fondly. He doesn’t deserve to be an insult.

I happen to agree – but that is only one way to look at it.

Another way: If you can turn Pete Seeger into an insult, then there must be no end to your writerly skills.

Exactly. The idea that all these women need to be on BFF terms all the time seems to stem from the idea that women can only be besties or total enemies. They could make his life even worse than it is. Here’s hoping they will.

Like any phenomenally talented rookie, AOC needs to learn how to compete at the major league level to have a long career commensurate with her enormous potential; it looks to me like that is what is going on. As to your projection of your antipathy for Pelosi, I prefer my projection: two gladiators who respect each other (and probably like each other a lot) and will do anything to find common ground to further their common cause.
