‘Anti-Democracy Populist’: Major Donor Calls For Hawley’s Censure By Senate | Talking Points Memo

A businessman who provided millions to support the first election campaign for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) condemned the lawmaker on Thursday for inciting a violent pro-Trump mob to lay siege at the Capitol earlier this week.

David Humphreys along with Rex Sinquefield are Missouri’s king makers. This is going to hurt Josh, and that is good.

Cracks in the dam - love it. This douche would have been a shoo-in too. Well educated, young, well spoken. Guy would have been the future of the post-Trump GOP.

Good job, dummies.

No one should ever give Hawley a moment’s peace for the damage he has caused. Same with Cruz, they both deserve to live to regret ever taking any steps to overturn this election. Starve them of campaign funds. Make their names synonymous with sedition. Or better, censure and remove them.

Looks like the Senator was using rotten tea leaves.

Money and power are all that matter to people like Hawley. He will have neither now. Stupid stupid man who knew how to get into Ivy League schools but not how to learn.

Ted Cruz is a product of the say-something-noticeable-but-seem-like-a-preacher school. The GOP are just too easy to manipulate from the inside.

It’s what led to Trump. His was a hostile takeover of their party, but they are so stuck on sticking together they followed like lemmings.

I truly believe anyone with a mind and the money to screw over the entire West had only to overfeed the machines that had been established by the Right in the UK and the US.

The UK Tories have spent 40 years blaming the EU for everything. The US GOP have spent as long blaming immigrants. But nothing got actually done about it until recently - too much money tied up in both arrangements.

Probably cost 100 million dollars to break both nations and the so-called democratic leadership of the world. And it’s still not over. And they got paid shorting the Pound anyway.

Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

I guess I’m not rich enough. I research before laying out millions. I’m sure all of you do the same.

And, after all, learning is not why people like Hawley go to an Ivy. It’s all about the connections.

(Qualification added in fairness to @chuck_voellinger’s better half.)

Couldn’t happen to a more ambitious, unscrupulous, dishonest guy. He thought he was gold and it turns out he’s just a shiny toy that’s already lost its glitter.

It’s important David Humphreys has put the phrase “anti-democracy” into the discussion, because that’s exactly what the last two months (and, to lesser extent, the last four years) have revolved around. As Josh [Marshall, not Hawley] has emphasized, consistent and effective messaging is key to making the public understand and retain concepts and information. Please keep highlighting “anti-democracy” when debating and commenting on the disgraceful actions and lies of Trump, Hawley, Cruz, Marjorie Greene, Fox News, et. al.
