‘Anti-Democracy Populist’: Major Donor Calls For Hawley’s Censure By Senate | Talking Points Memo

I’m sure Hawley will be whining BIG TIME today about his ‘rights’…

If I am not mistaken, a Senator can be impeached.

A major donor to Missouri Republicans who funneled millions into supporting the first election campaign for Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) condemned the lawmaker on Thursday for inciting a violent pro-Trump mob to lay siege at the Capitol earlier this week.

Too late.

Notice how Tom land O Cotton has moved away from the Cruz, Hawley wing of contempt for democratic norms. Yeah he’s just as dangerous but he knew when to fold his cards.

He’s from Missouri. Someone needs to show him… the door.

This pushback is heartening, but I have a feeling Hawley is still all in. He (and Cruz) made the bet that taking this stance would give him a leg up in the next presidential primary. One can only hope that all of the money dries up, because IMO, the constituency is probably still going to be in place for craven fucks like this to be nominated by the GOP in 2024.

Hawley is one of the highly dangerous “Trump 2.0” types
… more evil in much more sinister& manipulative but slightly more subtle ways and with a more polished veneer … weaponized smarmy-ness

He has committed the only true sin in McConnell’s eyes - he has screwed with the flow of money. This is absolutely unforgivable. He will be sitting in a corner facing the wall for a long, long time.

We must never forget.

Notice the fist Hawley is raising there to show the MAGAts? Know what that fist actually is?

It’s sign language for “asshole.”

Fun fact.

Cotton appears to have better instincts than Hawley and Cruz. He is smart. But he is also unlikeable, in my view. I don’t know if he’ll rise as high as he wants, but he has now staked out the turf of someone with a very conservative point of view who has reverence for the Constitution over personal ambition. I don’t think that is necessarily true, but I think he may have read the room correctly this week and successfully painted himself that way–leaving the Hawley and Cruz showboats in the dust in terms of national profile as a ‘serious’ person.

Censured, hell. Quite simply Hawley shouldn’t be seated. Period. The Senate possesses a mechanism for doing this and it’s the right thing to (not) do. However, because it’s the moral thing to do denying him a seat will never happen. And so it goes.

this does capture a bit of his essence … aggrieved Karen …

Possibly. I always took him for an Ivy League “fauxhillbilly” grifter who was skilled at fleecing the rubes. Cotton, on the other hand, is one scary mofo.

Cotton is more reptilian … and it sort of oozes out …of every pore … like a noxious excretion …

Senators can be either voted out of office or expelled. Impeachment is only reserved for judges and executive officers.

If he runs for re-election, or tries to run for President, that obnoxious picture of Hawley strutting past the mob outside the Capitol with his fist raised should be interspersed with scenes of the violence and chaos as the MAGA-ts stormed the building an hour later. Throw in a shot of the headline from the Kansas City Star noting Hawley has “Blood on his hands.”

His opponent just has to make it an ad, play it on wide rotation.

Bullshit. My wife is an Ivy alum and, while that is certainly the case with some, it isnt all. Unlike Cruz, I will defend my wife.
