How much would you like to see a regional full-scale hot war in the Middle east between Iran and Israel? Or between Iran and the Saudis, with Israel inevitably involved? Think that might affect gas prices? Cargo shipping through Suez? The world economy?
Our military support for Israel isn’t just for Israel alone, it’s because keeping Israel strong enough to defend itself against regional neighbors helps keep that whole area from exploding.
…an Arab state, which is pretty much where it was headed before 10/7: government overreach, arrogation of powers by its prime minister, partnering more deeply with religious fundamentalists and so on. But for the names of politicians, it would have been nearly indistinguishable from its neighbors.
Why wouldn’t the prosecution of a former president be the best way to establish the case law necessary to determine the limits of presidential immunity?
I remember our farm dogs and cats would get occasional dog food, but mostly corn meal mush (polenta for you gourmet types) flavored with bacon drippings. The critters were supplemented with colostrum from cows who had just calved. (You couldn’t mix the colostrum with the regular milk for sale.) They must’ve been pumped up from all the immunity given by the cows, since they all lived to very old ages.
Note: I said with regard to trade between nations, and, we don’t generally ignore UN “rules”, because we just veto the ones we don’t like.
Israel ain’t perfect. But all nations tend to fight wars in ways designed to hurt their opponents, and to win. I’m seeing people hold Israel to a standard that the US has never met. The 2nd Gulf war killed more than a million Iraqi civilians. Mostly women and children, I should think. And no one abandoned us as allies.
I don’t like how Israel behaves in the West Bank, or Gaza, or pretty much anywhere, but that’s not the way to choose your alliances.
I think that ship sailed a long time ago. Just ask Palestinian whose children were murdered by the so-called “settlers.” Or who have no water because the “settlers” took it.
Von Schitznpantz makes an appearance during the contempt hearing.
Tyler McBrien
Chuckles ripple thropugh the courtroom as Cohen’s posts are displayed, including a caption of “I won’t send money to your commissary” and an AI-generated photo of Trump in an orange cape with the caption SUPER VICTIM.
“Von ShitzInPantz” gets an especially hearty laugh.
CNN: Trump doesn’t rule out political violence if he loses.
I’m just some loser commentator on TPM, and I know what that obviously really means: Trump promises political violence if he loses. Now let me pretend I’m actually a (non-loser) pundit/analyst: Trump has been organizing and fund-raising for political violence if he loses since he declared his candidacy. Maybe before. And his incitations of political violence–“If we lose this election, you won’t have a country anymore” etc–are standard features of his stump speeches and social media. And the GOP leadership and congressional caucus are solidly behind him.
It’s literally CNN’s job to follow Trump around and report on everything he does. They’ve been devoting huge resources to this for years. And they’re still reporting his standard euphemisms straight up.
Was the US evil four years ago? I hated when Bush used “evil” to talk about countries and resist it here. Democracies can elect a leader like Trump or Netanyahu who do things that are can be called evil. But I don’t think calling Israel evil is the right focus, and more generally think that using this super-Christian rhetoric about being good or evil by nature can never really capture what happens in the real world.
