Another Trump White House Staffer To Testify Publicly About Jan. 6

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

The House Jan. 6 Committee has subpoenaed Sarah Matthews, the Trump White House’s deputy press secretary who resigned immediately after the Capitol attack, who’s agreed to testify publicly in front of the panel as soon as next week, according to CNN.

The House Jan. 6 Committee’s next public hearing will be held on Tuesday, July 12 at 10 a.m. ET.

I have off work that day. I can watch it!

Should I be concerned that these hearings excite me so much?

The trailer for Holder’s docuseries confirms my decision to not bother watching it. Hopefully the J6 committee got some good stuff from his footage, though.

and watch the parade of witnesses at the Fulton County GA grand jury
was it a coincidence that the date for the J6Committee and the GA Grand jury were announced for the same date on the same date?

I’ll still be in the DR, I think (here until the 15th unless they tell me otherwise).

Will need to depend on the Live Feed, for sure.

If the trailer was a tease then it will be the most boring thing ever.

Police checked out one report of attempted suicide, and confiscated weapons from him when he threatened to kill his family, and then he legally purchased the war implement used in a mass murder. What’s wrong with this picture?

One thing that i’m enjoying about the J6C’s work during this investigation, as opposed to the DOJ, is that it’s public humiliation for everyone who Thump has touched!

OT: A little bit of a calming image in this tumultuous time - this is our view from our resort for breakfast:

Totally OT but what are they saying in DR about Julio Rodriguez?

Curious what part of the case they will build in the next public hearing.

Oh, I don’t know - the DOJ hasn’t done its truly humiliating act of perp walks and cuff walks and orange jumpsuits.

The J6 humiliation is only the beginning.

Reports here and there that many of those issued subpoenas to appear before the Fulton Co grand jury are going to just tell them to piss off, as they’ve similarly responded to the J6 committee. DA Fani Willis will be a year or more fighting to force them to appear, for those she even deems the fight worth it. I imagine a least a couple will wage a war of legal attrition that sees her throw in the towel on their appearances, if for no other reason than for the sake of time and the need to bring the whole affair to trial(s).

I don’t get to hear much of anything. We’re in the office/plant from 7a until anywhere from 5:30 to 9pm. It’s real crunch time.

When we’re not in the plant, we’re at a resort - all TV is in Spanish (and mine isn’t good enough to follow completely). I don’t think I’ve seen any kind of periodical, so I’m truly out of touch except for when I can find time to get in here to TPM.

Neither we, nor Cassidy Hutchinson need a “defender” of hers to testify publicly, under oath.

We and Cassidy Hutchinson need a CORROBORATOR to testify publicly, under oath.

And if the J6C didn’t have one already in the wings on June 27th, then they’re fools.

If we accept that even DoJ and FBI don’t have unlimited resources, Fulton Co must be even more hamstrung by that, if nothing else.

Mulvaney’s worst moment may have been at CPAC at the end of February of 2020, when he claimed the media was hyping COVID to take down Trump’s presidency.

“The press was covering the hoax of the day because they thought it would bring down the president. The reason you’re seeing them paying so much attention today is that they think this (COVID19) is what brings down the president. That’s what this is all about.”

In that piece, which was headlined, “If he loses, Trump will concede gracefully,” Mulvaney criticized media outlets for suggesting that he would not “participate in a peaceful transition of power.” Mulvaney concluded: “The U.S. needs to know that the winner is actually the winner. And once Americans know that, I have every expectation that Mr. Trump will be, act and speak like a great president should—win or lose."
