Another Report Shows Fed Law Enforcement Worried Jan 6 Was Ripe For Potential Violence | Talking Points Memo

An FBI intelligence analyst reportedly warned months before the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection that efforts to overturn the election results could lead to violence.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1386909

Prior to al Qaeda’s attack on the U.S. on September 11, 2001, CIA Director George Tenet subsequently reported that “the system was blinking red.” Despite White House briefings on the bin Laden, intelligence agencies and domestic law enforcement failed to share crucial information.

The system was blinking red before January 6, 2021, and is blinking red again now for gatherings presumably planned for the end of September 2021.

HEED THE WARNINGS THAT THE SYSTEM IS BLINKING RED!!! THIS TIME, AS WAS JANUARY 6TH, 2021, IT IS DOMESTIC TERRORISM!!!

Maye the warnings were ignored because no one wanted to be appearing to cross TFG.

(And some LEO’s agreed with him.)

Well, surprise - who squashed that report? I knew of all these threats all along from the reporting that was being done here and on other websites. It was pretty common knowledge to anyone paying attention.

Gee whiz, imagine THAT.

"violence will likely ensue.”

Conservatism is about violence.

Steal The Republican Core. They don’t like this either.

The one thing America can be certain of is that with trillions of dollars spent for the “best” defense and intelligence on the planet, the next “unknowable” terrorist attack will have had a string of easy-to-follow warnings and planning all of which will have been ignored by those entrusted to prevent them.

All of the red flags before 9-11 were ignored as well, again to fulfill various agendas.

I remember the early warnings were reported, what I can’t remember is what knocked them out of the 24 hour news cycle.
Timing is everything, except when we had a POTUS that created 5 crisis/crises before 5PM, each and everyday.
Add into the mix how everyone got see how TFG got his upside down bible holding photo op, that reaction created hesitancy in how law enforcement treated threats. Real and perceived threats.

I’m pretty sure this is at the heart of the January 6 commission. I think they want to make that connection and their actions so far seem consistent with this goal. It’s super important that they do this.

Nothing to see here. Please move along, citizens.

The FBI analyst cited findings of SITE Intelligence Group, which describes itself as “the world’s leading non-governmental counterterrorism organization” in their email when warning that militia groups are pushing “increasingly violent rhetoric, expressing a new level of escalation by declaring, ‘The fight is now.’”

Well, Texas has now “deputized” all of those militias groups, so their next insurrection will obviously be legal. Any violence that occurs is obviously the fault of the left-wing Defenders of Democracy.

‘the FBI analyst wrote, before urging recipients to “keep your head on a swivel,” ‘

Sounds like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. Was this so they could fit in with the Trumpers? Given some of the videos of the Jan 6th crowd, this seems like an effective strategy.

I notice that even though they do mention ‘counter protesters’ in this report that there is never, and has never, been any evidence of Leftist organizing or disseminating ANY info, let alone false and disproved conspiracy theories.

So it isn’t like they are prioritizing the lefty chatter and taking that seriously. There isn’t any. Every time anything like this gets mentioned, the only chatter they can point to is RW and it is false, and full of conspiracy malarkey and always inciting violence.

It seems reasonable to postulate that how the Biden administration deals with the 9/18 outpouring of hyped outrage over the injustices heaped upon the 1/6 coup-plotters will provide a reasonable baseline for assessing what should have been done in response to January’s assembly of wannabe insurrectionists. (Note: I take Donnie’s response to the BLM protests of the summer as bloated by his fear and, therefor, a suitable model for nothing.)
While it’s not really necessary, it provides a real world model of what could have been done and investigating why it wasn’t.

Under Billy Barr, wasn’t it always so?

Yes, I suspect a suicide attack by Islamic extremists from Saudi Arabia wasn’t part of the Cheney administration’s chosen narrative for war in the Middle East.

I missed this. Is that when the restoration is going to happen now?

Nah, apparently there’s a planned (and discussed on the internet [?even now?]) rally to protest the holding of political prisoners from 1/6.
