Oh dear, oh gracious me!
A smear from dear danny D
Why must he rain blows
On harmless old crows?
What could the reason possibly B?
Depends on length and frequency.
We can say someone had a ‘break’ and finally said what they’ve said in private or kept hid, but a scandal is what again?
We’re told to not put stuff online, that we wouldn’t say off of it, but we also live in a world that has folks thinking ‘nobody is ever going to find out’.
Frequency is arbitrary
I’ll probably be dead and on my cairn will be the following : there’s no such thing as a perfect candidate.
He certainly has the best avatar.
Nobody regular, or of a non-jerk mentality, would say “Happy Jew Year” and then remark they had to work on their anti-semitism.
The rule for comedy: Only people from that particular group, can use the verbal slurs, ethnic or gendered, that have been traditionally leveled at them as stand-alone contextless humor - everybody else, back off.
I wish I had a nice boiled down, succinct slapshot of a saying for the non-governing actions of Republicans. They are in politics and government but don’t do any governing.
They work OVERTIME to try to produce proof of Dem anti-semitism to cover for their own anti-semitism. They got lots of time for unlimited ratfuckkery, but not time to actually govern or stop being anti-semites, etc.
You have a point, troy. I just don’t think fresh out of college is in that catagory. Failed humor? Maybe the car/menora - but the rest is just ignorant.
Totally agree-- thus my comments that if those historical comments buttressed an argument about a pattern of behavior over time, particularly one that reaches the present or recent past, then absolutely fair game to include them as supporting evidence.
But if the last time you can find a stupid comment from the guy is a decade ago, and there’s been no behavior or other comments bringing his character into question, that seems a bit extreme.
Hell, the Statute of Limitations for most of Trump’s shenanigans from his campaign is 5 years.
But we’re supposed to crucify some dude over a tweet he sent nearly a decade ago? Not buying it.
-
is that the demarcation?
-
just for NYT?
Totes different subject
Though it’s for good reason, folks are doing that now.
I’d put it as age-dependent. A person who was in their early 20s when they wrote it, like he was, I’d give a lot more leeway to than someone in their 40s or older (that whole thing about teaching an old dog new tricks).
Absolutely not. I’m thinking more blanket.
What I’m trying to point out there is that the whole criminal code says that way more serious things than a tweet can’t be retroactively punished after a certain period of time has passed.
I’m going to be careful with the last part, but though this country isn’t supposed to prosecute for speech, there have been instances of…
As for ‘45’, he got in on account of the 1st.
And I don’t knock that. If there’s current or recent activity on someone, by all means, have at it. I’m just saying that there needs to be a line somewhere, that we don’t hang people’s dumb shit said as immature youths over them for the rest of their lives, so long as they do grow and mature.

k, I’ll knock it for you.
We supposedly have grownups in this country and they’re pulling their strands like wailing Niobe, because their worse nightmare came true: there really is a big difference between the two major parties.
Once upon a time, I’d have given those folks, the benefit of the doubt, because pre Trump, it was just words and we lived in a ‘sticks and stones’ motif.
Wellllllllllllllllllll
catches breath
…llllllllllllll
Welcome to the post era of that. I don’t have any bad feelings towards Hader, Trea Turner, Sean Newcomb, because their contracts are their salve and maybe it won’t be held against em.
Howeva, it’s not ‘frieh spiech’, it’s freedom of speech and doing something like that, can cost a lot.
Folks had an opportunity to mature and stop being jerks, but some of us…
i won’t say who and I dare that person to @ me.
want to make this about purity and their form of 1A ‘Kung Fu’. Well, here we are now…where all of the sins are on the table and no one is exempt.
I’m actually ok with that.
You need fucking slapping.
here’s a wunnerful lil tune that was covered by a singing great, Darius Tucker. Don’t even…
Because he’s good at his job.
That he was a total dick in college who thought he was being clever has little to do with his current job—although it’s likely to make him lose that job.
I am not offended. I just mean that when the Times lets down it’s readers I don’t think it means
the rank and file are somehow worse journalists than their predecessors. Some things the Times does today put the old times to shame—thinking of the Upshot section for example. Other things maybe not so much. I’d love to have william Safire, Anthony Lewis and Russell Baker back on the opp Ed page instead of brooks, Dowd and Ross Douthat.
Nine times out of ten it’s bad leadership that leads to travesty like Judy Miller, etc…
It’s possible that the guy in question was a douchebag as a 21 year old. Maybe his Twitter was not representative of who he was. He might be really good at his job now 10 years later.
Ah, a journalism major. When I worked at a newspaper, the only journalism majors I ran into were in PR. All the best reporters on news side seemed to be poli sci or econ majors, and the features creatures were from more esoteric corners of the liberal arts realm – linguistics, art, music, English, philosophy, Radio-TV-Film etc.
