Another NYT Editor Is Being Reprimanded For ‘Offensive’ Tweets

And I still do not understand how one Republican - just one - doesn’t realize that he if s/he stood up against this piece of human garbage, they would be applauded. It would make their career, post-human garbage. Let’s see what happens during the impeachment, when he displays even more alarming signs of mental illness.

Some TPMers and their opinions are best ignored. You’ve just bumped up against one of them.

He fired me on four separate occasions. I am not kidding.

Trashing the free press because of a couple of unthinking newbies later reprimanded is very trumPP like. Someone needs to reprimand the occupant, how about you do it?

Eventually, with this era of permanent recordings of every stupid thing people do since birth, we’re going to have to come to some basic statute-of-limitations understanding that we don’t hold them to account for dumb shit they did when they were young if there’s no indication that that’s part of a pattern that reaches to more recent times.

How many of us out there are lucky that we grew up in an era when youthful stupidity wasn’t recorded for posterity.

Hey, I know there are much wittier and more trenchant commenters on TPM than I, irasdad and eustacetilly being two fine examples. But I have just as much a right to criticize lousy journalism as anyone else does, and the number of talented people who work at the NYT doesn’t change that fact.

I am sure that there are many enormously talented people who work for the bordellos in Nevada, but I haven’t seen any of them responsible for allowing a headline like

‘Trump urges unity vs racism’

You are making the assumption that the current crop of Republicans are human beings. I am still waiting for the scientific data on that one. LOL!

Short answer (I’m finally enjoying my day off, until I enjoy my weekend days off): in the past, stuff like that would have been a firing offense or at least a suspension.

The least would have been a scandal.

My ‘burr’ is Junior Trump is leading the morals police and we both know that he has plenty of skeletons.

If privacy wasn’t dead before, it is somewhat now and gosh darn it, good riddance.

You figure after 3 times any normal, sane person would have given up.

Maybe he was auditioning for a job in the Trump administration.

you could always try painting with less broad brush, eh?

That headline surely sucked balls, though.

More skeletons in his closet than John Wayne Gacy after Chicago ClownFest '78.

My point is that in the past, if someone said some dumb shit while they were drunk at a bar, nobody had a phone to record it, and they didn’t have apps to post shit online before thinking it through.

Totally agree that the comments are at best just stupid.

But if he doesn’t have a more recent record of either comments or behavior along those lines, I’m much more inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was young and dumb.

Isn’t it wonderful, though, that the Trumpsters and the GOP are all a-twitter (pardon the bad pun) about Donnie, Jr. being the social media attack dog for Daddy’s 2020 campaign?

It’s like having Sam Clovis as your exercise coach at the gym.

unless the rule really is the rich aren’t really like you and me.

It’s not so much NYT in general as specifically most of their OpEd & politics content makers are complete trash

I’ll just call for standard statutes of limitations to be applied to what is “fair game” when it comes to past writings/posts.

People do grow and mature (some of the time).

We apply a limit on how long various crimes can be prosecuted. Why not the same for speech? Hader’s comments as a juvenile should surely be off-limits (again, unless they support a pattern of more recent behavior).

Or where are we going to be in 2040 or 2050, when presidential and congressional candidates will have had literally their entire lives recorded online in one form or another.

Will we be digging up things some guy said 50 years prior to pillory him?

Hope you didn’t take anything I said personally. It wasn’t intended that way, and if that is the impression I gave I am quite sorry.

And “sucked balls” is the kind of phrase I wish Dean Baquet would have used in his useless apology for that stupid headline.

Have you ever thought of applying for a job as editor at the NYT? LOL!
