Americans Perceive Their Political Opposites As Ready For Violence, Poll Shows | Talking Points Memo

Americans are eyeing fellow countrymen with suspicion these days, and new polling indicates that a significant number of Democrats believe Republicans would condone violence if Trump were to claim the election had been stolen.

It’s easy to see why… TRUMP shouts it from the mountaintops every day. This is the proven Limbaugh method.

Um, wonder how many Democrat-leaning groups are on the Southern Poverty Law Center list of hate groups? Maybe a handful?

On the other extreme, all the violent whackjob groups have a common deplorable base.

Interesting that poll wise Ds come off a bit more violent i.e. slightly higher condoning it against Rs and Rs feeling like Ds more violent than Ds feel Rs are. But that almost falls more in line with my believe that Rs tend to be more scared and why they tend to be the folks that want 2nd amendment and to own guns.

Bingo!

I’m really puzzled how RWNJs can see progressive liberals as being violent extremists. Have we plotted to kidnap red state governors, or something like that that I’m not aware of? Do we wear camo and semi-automatics around when we protest? Do we ignore the rules in place to help protect the safety of our fellow Americans? Do we hoard guns and ammo?

Yes. To be a Republican is to be very insecure with who you are. They have no message except to cry victim.

I know you are, but what am I?

Yes, but as in the example of young women at a ski resort seeking husbands, the situation may not be as symmetric as it seems. Democrats perceive RWNJs as ready to commit violence, and RWNJs perceive democrats as having an ass-whuppin coming to them.

The scenario “Trump win but Biden claims stolen” is highly problematic. One, polling shows that a legitimate Trump win now is highly unlikely. Two, in the case of a legitimate Trump win, the likelihood of Biden claiming the elections was stolen is vanishingly small.

It’s very hard not to read “Trump win but Biden claims stolen” as “Trump loses, claims a ‘win’ by corrupt means, and Biden calls him on it.”

Afraid not. If the election turns on just one state and that one state is GA, TX, or FL on a margin of R+2% or less, then the election likely will have been stolen. If WI and the number of mail-in ballots rejected due to being received after the election but within six days is 10 times the vote difference, then WI will have been stolen by the SC. Same for if PA is the turning state and post-election judicial fiat awards the state to the minority vote-getter.

OK…as long as ‘they’ are scared of me TOO. I’m tired of the RW crazies thinking they can wave their guns around and the latte sipping Liberals will cower in fear. I’M MAD AS HELL AND I’M NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE.

I get what you’re saying. That would not be a “legitimate” win. Fact is, a genuinely legit win by Trump is just about vanishingly unlikely.

FL 2000 was legitimate in all the real world ways that count, for 8 years of bush the lesser (and two supreme court justices).

Everybody is afraid when Bigfoot is out and about.
He’s one really big hairy scary-lookin’ mofo.
So scary that camera lenses refuse to focus.
But Biden voters shouldn’t ever fear Bigfoot.
Bigfoot voted early, and he voted Blue.
So if you see Bigfoot out performing GOTV, smile and wave.
He’ll smile back, but his hair will likely hide it.
Bigfoot’s got your back.

They might be correct. If they steal the election they’ll find out.
