It is much worse than the orange shitbag. All he did was exploit, to the hilt, the fucked-up-ness that was already firmly in place. Put another way, he would not have taken root as a viable political entity in a healthy society. America is a truly fucked-up country. How it got there is a deeper story than merely the orange shitbag. You could say much the same of Hungary. It is not clear it could be otherwise. Homo sapiens are not a very evolved species - at least, large segments of it aren’t.

An interesting tidbit is that Kimberly Yee, a Republican running for State Treasurer who is a mainline R, has a current vote total of 1,033,275, compared to Masters’ 884,191, Hobbs 940,716, and Finchem’s 890,376. So it looks like a number of R’s withheld their votes, especially for Masters and Finchem who were the Trumpiest.
Since then, more ballots have come in from Pima and Maricopa and things look better. But there are still 30% of the ballots left to tabulate.
Also, the stupids in Maricopa county are going ahead with a hand recount, violating a judge’s ruling.
To clarify, pundits everywhere try to explain what is happening by providing some context. Eventually, a non-sticking narrative gets dropped if something better comes along. I agree, Americans don’t follow Ukraine, Putin or most international news that closely, and maybe you need Marxist-Leninist history in grammar school just to get to such wild contexts I found the convoluted splainen’ on Russian tv amusing. It may not even be funny at all, just another Putin setup that causes more harm.

We did it in the 2nd NM Congressional District, we voted Yvette Herrell out and surprisingly she conceded the race. Here is her statement after she conceded to Gabe Vasquez:
“While we are disappointed by the final results, I am incredibly proud of our team and the world we did serving our district, and I am grateful for the steadfast support of so many who helped us along the way. I’d also like to congratulate Gabe Vasquez on a hard fought victory.
“Two years ago, the Democrats in Santa Fe announced they would gerrymander our district to ensure they would totally control our state’s federal delegation. Unfortunately, they did just that, ignoring the will of the people in the process by splitting up communities of interest and concentrating power in urban areas at the expense of rural New Mexico voices. While this was enough to earn them a victory by less than 1% in this election, I am confident in our party’s ability to retake this seat next cycle as (President) Joe Biden’s agenda continues to damage our great nation. Stay tuned!”
There will be no court battle this time like there was in 2018.
New Mexico is truly Blue since the Democrats ran the board Tuesday by electing Democrats for every major state office, our three Representatives and two Senators are Democrats, plus we have majorities in both branches of the state legislatures.

I wasn’t disagreeing, just elaborating. I doubt that many if any votes were influenced by Ukraine one way or another. It was all confirmation bias at work.

Great! Now lock in the democratic majority by expanding the franchise: ubiquitous mail-in voting, no burdensome ID requirements, automatic registration to vote (if you don’t already have it).
