America Starts To Reject Election Deniers - TPM – Talking Points Memo

They’re dumping Trump, and quite unceremoniously. He’s like the dinner guest who’s overstayed his welcome and it’s 2am and he’s still telling bad jokes and making crude comments about their 14 year old daughter’s boobs.

Good analogy. He’s that utterly boorish, churlish house guest you don’t want around your kids anymore – especially your young daughters. He was never fully socialized and has no filters.
But I’m still seeing trump hats and bumper stickers. We must treat these folks like Biblical lepers and make them carry cowbells. I’m embarrassed to say I have in-laws who are trumpers. They might as well be dead as far as I’m concerned.

Mall-in voting? I like it!

Seriously, if you could vote in your local mall, Starbucks, Applebee’s, Golden Corral, truck stop, megachurch, Taco Bell, McD’s, Panera, etc., we’d have 90% compliance. Would you like to supersize your ballot?

They are working on it. The governor worked hard to make sure the tribes had a place at the table and she got her way. This is what the governor and the secretary of state are working on.

  • Increasing voter access by extending the early voting period through the Sunday before Election Day, designating Election Day as a state holiday, and allowing 16 year-olds to participate in local elections;
  • Creating a permanent absentee voter list that allows individuals to voluntarily receive mail ballots for each election without needing to make individual requests;
  • Expanding online voter registration opportunities by allowing individuals without MVD-issued ID to register online using their full social security number;
  • Extending the timeline for mailing ballots to voters to 35 days before an election and extending the deadline for accepting voted ballots to 7 p.m. the Friday after an election to accommodate for mail delivery time;
  • Supporting Native voting access by expanding the timeline for indigenous nations, tribes, and pueblos to request alternate voting sites;
  • Improving automatic voter registration by adopting a system that provides a mechanism for eligible individuals to become automatically registered to vote upon completing a transaction at the Motor Vehicle Department;
  • Enabling nominating petition signatures to be securely submitted electronically;
  • Automatically restoring the voting rights of those convicted of a felony who are not currently incarcerated; and
  • Creating an option to vote a straight party ballot.

No, he’s the visible bubos on the plague victim. Newt, Cheney, McConnell are the biting fleas on the rats that spread it.

We were househunting and on the street turnoff there was a driveway with a large wooden professionally painted sign ’ F _ _ _ Joe Biden’ firmly planted on stout wooden posts. Because it was important to this individual to swear at his neighbors all day long.

Perphaps, but the party needs somebody to dump on and TDFFG has set himself up to be the fall guy. If an indictment comes down (fingers crossed), a majority of Americans will be dancing in the streets and a plurality of Republicans will be doing a quiet little jig in a place secluded enough that they don’t have to go on record.

Oh my…

Donald J. Trump faced unusual public attacks from across the Republican Party on Wednesday after a string of midterm losses by candidates he had handpicked and supported, a display of weakness as he prepared to announce a third presidential campaign as soon as next week.

As the sheer number of missed Republican opportunities sank in, the rush to openly blame Mr. Trump was as immediate as it was surprising.

Conservative allies criticized Mr. Trump on social media and cable news, questioning whether he should continue as the party’s leader and pointing to his toxic political brand as the common thread woven through three consecutive lackluster election cycles.

Mr. Trump was seen as largely to blame for the Republicans’ underwhelming finish in Tuesday’s elections, as a number of the candidates he had endorsed in competitive races were defeated — including nominees for governor and Senate in Pennsylvania and for governor of Michigan, New York and Wisconsin.

“Republicans have followed Donald Trump off the side of a cliff,” David Urban, a longtime Trump adviser with ties to Pennsylvania, said in an interview.

Former Representative Peter King, a Republican from Long Island who has long supported Mr. Trump, said, “I strongly believe he should no longer be the face of the Republican Party,” adding that the party “can’t become a personality cult.”

I’ll bang my gong (again!) for my opinion of the culprits, roughly in descending order of level and duration of responsibility…

  • the compliant, conservative, corporate so-called liberal media (SCLM, which has “bothsidered”, “whatabouted”, and uber-credulously promoted Republican’t framing and talking points for decades generations, pointedly refusing (or paid/otherwise incentivized NOT (see bullet #2)) to learn from their previous mistakes (see Bart’s Law #2).

  • the corrupted, already packed, and desperately-in-need-of-UNpacking SCOTUS (particularly since their corporate/dark-money-unleashing and disastrous-to-democracy Citizens United NOT TIMID** decision).

  • Pro-democracy and true patriot Republican’ts and conservatives, who failed to cull out, keep down, or otherwise prevent outright/explicitly fascist, racist (misogynist, nativist, traditionalist, christianist, heterosexist, classist, ableist, etc.), violent, anti-democracy authoritarians from taking over their party and calling its tune.

  • Dems and Libs–absolutely including myself–for failing to be more aggressive when defending ourselves and pushing back on the SCLM.

** As just a single, simple example of #4 (this time, I’m semi-proud to say, excluding myself), I’ll point to how the SCLM (absolutely unsurprisingly) AND Dems/libs (disappointingly, to me) immediately-and-forevermore(?) referred to this disastrous case only as the first two names/letters of the FULL, FOUR-NAME (-LETTERED ACRONYM (w/ the intentionally-offensive acronym left, as my engineering textbooks used to say, “as an exercise for the reader”) Roger Stone-inspired ratf*cking outfit.
