Rep. Justin Amash (I-MI), who left the Republican Party in an op-ed on Independence Day, revealed over the weekend that many “high level” Republican officials are supportive of impeaching President Trump. They just don’t want to talk about it publicly.
A direct result of the Gerrymander/Primary
When the only people that can take you out are members of your own party , it’s a predictable result
Also no balls, it’s a predictable result
It bears repeating that Amash also told Tapper RE Pelosi:
“From a principled moral position she is making a mistake. From a strategic position she is making a mistake. If she believes as I do that there’s impeachable conduct in [the Mueller report], then she should say so. She should tell the American people we’re going to move forward with impeachment hearings and potentially articles of impeachment.”
I mean, it’s not like they could go public, change the debate, and actually help correct the worst mistake this country has made since letting Tony Danza host Memorial Day on the Mall.
The more I think about her “reasons” for not wanting to impeach, the less they actually hold up. If the new House members from red districts (like the one near me where Abigail Spanberger beat Dave Brat in Eric Cantor’s district, which had never gone blue) who need “protection” have such a tenuous grip on their constituents, then they will find another reason not to support them in the next election. I don’t mean to be flippant here - but it’s just not a good reason. Those voters could easily say that nothing the members campaigned on has come to pass - because all the bills die in the Senate. Is that a reason not to vote for them again?
Certainly not his old pals in the Freedom Caucus. Maybe (gone) folks like Mia Love and Bob Corker?
aside - just ran across this on twitter. More surreal and crappy “statesmanship” - or perhaps the performance art response to the leaked dis of Trump by the UK Ambassador?
If Amash wanted to do a couple useful things, rather than just talking, he could change his registration to Democrat and tell us the names of all those other Republicans who have privately told him that Trump should be impeached.
Furthermore he doesn’t seem to get that impeachment does not equal removal. Pelosi knows if she doesn’t make it an utter defeat for Trump that his team will spin it as vindication and the electorate will buy it because, as we’ve learned, a HUGE chunk of voters are complete idiots
in this instance, if you don’t say it then you don’t mean it, these so called principled repubes do not exist until they come out of their tRUmp closet.
If Trump continues on his present course, an Impeachment Inquiry is a given…when school starts and most people get down to business…The number of Dems getting on board with the Inquiry is growing at a rate so that 144 (more than the 118 which would represent half of Pelosi’s Caucus).would be On Board by Labor day
And this does not take into account Mueller’s appearance before Congress in 9 days.
While I aaplaud Amash for putting his political life on the line to call out Trump and his crimes, I have to wonder just how many GOPers are on his side, as he says. I see him sticking his neck out, but all these others are not coming out and calling out Trump’s BS. Maybe it’s for political expediency, but more need to be vocal instead of silently and tacitly agreeing with Trump.
