This judge is an idiot. How on earth does she think anyone can confer enough? From Trump’s point of view conferring means agreeing with. Cannon should be gone… she is an embarrassment to the US and more importantly to Leonard Leo and his Republican cabal.

Why is all this craziness happening?
Pundits who say it’s low-information or confused voters, or “economic anxiety” (the New York Times’s favorite phrase), or law and order or whatever are making excuses. Authoritarianism and fascism are POPULAR; people like it. It appeals to their true inner nature. Until 2016, neither major party ever made an explicit appeal to people’s basest instincts; Wallace did in 1968, but third parties simply don’t have the institutional clout to carry the electorate.
Now we’re finding out it’s wildly popular. Same in Europe: Marine Le Pen’s National Rally is expected to clobber Macron’s party in the European Parliament elections in June. Under Austria’s Freiheitliche Partei, the Kremlin has infiltrated the entire government structure, and the population on the whole is happy with that:

Sweeping stuff off tables and desks. Peeing on things to claim territory and killing Tie Fighters is what young cats do. There’s nothing we can do about it except to wait for the kitty concerned to become geriatric and so old age calms them down.
Our kitty is 21 years old and has given up play time in exchange for nap time.

Reminds me of the film Germany in Autumn, in one part of which Rainer Werner Fassbinder talks to his mother about Hitler, who she pretty much defends. She says sometimes, people just want someone to tell them what to do.

I disagree. Her actions are consistent and favor Trump. This is not “in over her head” (although we may quibble about whether she is just parroting instructions from someone who knows how to serve Trump’s interests, or whether she is coming up with it on her own).
