She’ll never get there. She’s a loony tune with very little experience, who got the national spotlight only because the Trump case got thrown in her lap.
She has made too many mistakes recently, and there are too many more experienced hard right judges standing in line ahead of her. Trump is transactional and may want to reward her, but I predict she’ll never get past a Senate confirmation.
Cannon has no jurisdiction to enter any orders in the case. She dismissed it on the merits months and months ago, and the mandate now resides exclusively at the court of appeals. This thing is void ab initio and may be safely ignored as a nullity.
The Republican Party would answer that the terrible things about the President should be hidden, so exceptional Americans can continue to believe the fiction of the Party and the lying Heritage Foundation. Very compelling. Ignorance is bliss.
The thing is Donald Trump insists he’s innocent in these matters. It would be a terrible misuse of government power for him to have to live his life under this cloud. Show us the lies against him, so we may know how awful our government is, so he may finally live and work and love and laugh as a free man, slave to no one.
FWIW I tried calling the White House comment line to encourage Biden to declassify the report and it’s not accepting any messages. They also took down the electronic comment section on the site.
I started to email but got a little nervous that it would be recorded and somehow tracked in 2 weeks.
There is no rule of law left in this country. This countries best days are far behind us now and there is no future for democracy here. The United States of America was lost on Joe Biden’s watch.
Acting in good faith, Garland’s fatal flaw appears to have been that he assumed Trump & Co. were also acting in good faith.
“Meek Merrick Garland should have just released the damn report as soon as it was completed, but no … Garland, as usual, was preoccupied with appearances and procedural niceties, and had to extend the courtesy of supplying an advance copy to Trump’s lawyers, who will now, with Cannon’s help, run out the clock until January 20.”
I hope Garland releases it immediately. I hope that does not fall to Biden. I expect that when it’s released, Roberts will write an op-ed defending the federal judiciary and denouncing "…elected officials from across the political spectrum (who) have raised the specter of open disregard for federal court rulings,” He won’t mention Cannon or refer directly to the report.
Don’t you mean “Who will rid us of this meddlesome judiciary?”
It seems that the Republican six on the Supreme Court has answered “Us, we will see your will done in America as it is in the heaven of your mind.
Just like the Ghost of Christmas in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, we are getting a glimpse of the Ghost of Predidential Accountability dissipating rapidly in the harsh glare of Trumpmuskovia, like Camelot fading into nothing more than smoke and vapor, a mere memory of the storied times past we tell ourselves
There is a simple solution to this: Garland and Smith ignore Cannon’s dubious order and release the report anyway.
Joe Biden then immediately pardons them.
Garland won’t do this because, you know, probity. #AssymetricalWarfare
