The response to this should be really simple, if Biden has the balls to do it. Biden gets a copy of the report directly from either Smith or Garland, and then Biden releases it on his way out the door. What are they going to do? Biden has Presidential immunity.

This is bullshit. Biden should order the immediate release of that report and ask the judiciary what they plan to do about it. This is obviously a separation of powers issue, and the executive branch controls the DOJ.

Smith or Garland just needs to release the report. Cannon be damned. Smith and / or Garland may be locked up soon after Jan 20 anyway.
I haven’t done research on this, but has a Federal judge ever intervened in the DOJ releasing a report before? Norms are dead, I guess.

Points for the King Canute reference: unlike the good king, I’ll bet Cannon actually imagines her ‘order’ has both standing and real force.

That wouldn’t stop the R’s from hitting Biden with lawsuits over the release. He would have to spend money on lawyers and time in court for the next year or two to defend the release. Why go through all that, if Garland is planning to release it anyway after this latest nonsense from Cannon is dealt with?
If it isn’t released before the inauguration then I’ll be yelling for Biden to release it too. There is still time for the release through normal DOJ channels.

Meek Merrick Garland should have just released the damn report as soon as it was completed, but no … Garland, as usual, was preoccupied with appearances and procedural niceties, and had to extend the courtesy of supplying an advance copy to Trump’s lawyers, who will now, with Cannon’s help, run out the clock until January 20.
