After Trump’s Debate Tantrum, Some Question Whether Others Should Go Forward | Talking Points Memo

Questions are swirling following the conclusion of the first of three scheduled presidential debate about whether or not the remaining two should even go forward after the first round quickly devolved into President Donal Trump bullying moderator Chris Wallace, repeatedly exceeding his time limit and speaking over his Democratic rival Joe Biden.

If there are more, then there needs to be the ability to turn off microphones, and turn them on only when the candidate is supposed to be speaking. Interrupting? OFF. Over time? OFF. Arguing with moderators or the other candidate? OFF.

If they turn off Trump’s mic and he can’t execute his mentally deranged game plan, he will truly freak out. It negates the only strategy he has, which is… to look like a dominant male? I guess?

This wasn’t a debate. It was two adults trying to manage a toddler tantrum.

What’s the value of more debates? Biden’s fundraising is through the roof and soon we’ll see the effect on polling. Biden should demand even more debates.

If the commission on presidential debates doesn’t fix this then they should just stop having them altogether. Though watching Steve Scully try to moderate a town hall (which is the second debate) has a better chance as trump would necessarily be yelling at citizens in addition to the moderator and Biden

tRump showed the world what he is. I think this will be shown to have gone very badly for him.
Yeah the stupids who think WWF is real will still vote for him, but the middle and the center-right Republicans are likely to have been very turned off by his childish performance.

Let him do it again. Now we know what to expect.

Trump has a dominant mouth that spews sh*t.
Trump is not a man.
Never was.
Never will be.

…it was also the most entertaining debate in memory. Entertaining like watching a car wreck, but entertaining. Wallace was weak, as predicted.

The first headlines/stories out of the MSM were ridiculous both sides bullshit. My local news presented it the same way. The blame Biden for fighting back. And if he didn’t, they’d blame Biden for not fighting back. He did the same thing four years ago. When will they learn? Never apparently.

Before the (so called) debate my wife told me to not shout and bluster at Trump so she could enjoy the show. Then she proceeded to shout and scream at Trump for embarrassing our nation and showing us that he does not belong to the human race. He was an alien from another reality. Vote for Biden/Harris.

I think Biden should show up for the next two debates and let Trump piss all over himself.

It seems the president provided much material that can be used in democratic ads, Lincoln Project ads, vets vote ads etc.

I frankly turned had to turned it off, it was just Trump interrupting and Wallace shouting at him, Got old in a few minutes.

It was suggested they do this via Zoom, so that mics could be muted and no physical intimidation would be possible.

Unfortunately, the settings for the next two debates might not work with that.

Why would Rump try to debate again when he had other plans to feed his cult?

I read a social media comment this morning from someone in Australia, who pretty much indicated that this performance shredded what was left of America’s credibility in the world.

One person’s opinion.

Two friends said they read somewhere Trump wouldn’t agree to that. Wonder why. Ha!

To me there is nothing entertaining about the president of the United States acting like a 5yr old having a tantrum on the playground. Again, to me there is nothing entertaining about the president of the United States embarrassing the United States in front of the whole world.

Putin must be so proud.

I can find nothing on the 'net about how much money the GOP raised off the debate.

The 'net is dominated by the Dem fundraising.

Biden and Harris should definitely not say they’re not going to debate, and be open if Trump wants more.
I’m guessing that Trump will spend the next few days shouting that it was “rigged,” Biden had to have been wearing an earpiece, and that Biden was on drugs. In a couple of days he will convince himself that he won big and it would have been bigger if it wasn’t rigged, if he hasn’t already. He’ll be sure the next one will be his glory.
I predicted that there would be no debates because Trump would back out. I was wrong. I further predicted that if there was one debate, there wouldn’t be any others. I stand by that. Despite the fact Trump will think he can do it, his handlers all saw the failure, and all of them, right down to Putin, will be working to get him to cancel. The question is, will they succeed? My bet is yes.
