After Trump’s Debate Tantrum, Some Question Whether Others Should Go Forward | Talking Points Memo

When Trump claims “it would have been 2 million”, as if one can even used the past tense to discuss Covid, Joe needs to respond, “If we have four more years of your incompetence, that’s how many deaths we will probably see.”

Donald J. Trump: The baby at every baptism. The infant at every crying jag. The bride at every wedding. The ‘victim’ at every disaster. The bloviator at every disruption. The corpse at every funeral. The tyrant at every tyranny. The asshole at every anus.

If Donnie will cut back and snort just two lines, he will have a bit more self control. The boy doesn’t know “moderation.”

Only cultists or cult-leaners liked last night. That’s the long and short of it…and w/r/t Trumpers proclaiming a win…

They are proclaiming COVID as a “win”.

I’m honestly not sure about this. Of course it was a disgraceful display put on by a deeply sick person, and I’m kind of a huge believer in keeping disgraceful stuff to a minimum. But I think people need to see more of the Joe we glimpsed occasionally last night. There are also political downsides to withdrawing from the battle, not justified, pure spin, but that you have to acknowledge. He would be entirely justified in calling a halt to this, in putting the “debate” format out of its misery until we have rational candidates again. But I’ll bet they decide in the end to soldier on.

if anyone wants to witness what a psychological misfit is really like, have a few more debates.
he can only get worse at every category of human decency.
not to mention the fact that he is in way over his head and capabilities of running a country.
let the people see and anyone with a ounce of brain matter can only come to the reasonable conclusion that trump is a Lemon. A defunct human misfit that needs to be recycled into concrete.
Biden made it thru that fiasco, next time he will be better at slam dunking him.
let round 2 begin.

Will Trump be able to lumber around during a town hall? He appears to lack mobility

The only thing that Joe’s team is doing, going forward, is the dropping of a few more tools in the toolbox.**

Just like Obama did in 2012.

Joe has the posture of a mature campaigner, quite close to the prize. He will not do anything to kick over the chessboard.

** Oh…and arranging to collect all the mountains of money coming their way after Trump acted like a three-year-old last night

He couldn’t stand up straight because he was up on heel lifts and strapped into a Trump foundation (corset). Without the podium he would have fallen on his face.

When Nixon/Kennedy debated (1960), Nixon’s sour, dark, surly demeanor actually put off Dems and repubs alike. Nixon proved how unfit he was temperamentally and he lost bigly. Today, Drumpf’s depraved base applauds Drumpf’s unhinged, racist, angry, petulant outbursts. It’s a brave new world and the inmates are running the asylum.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany swooped in late last night

Now there’s something you don’t see everyday: a snake that can swoop.

I have a bit different question …
How quickly and accurately can the impact of last night be assessed?
My belief if that Biden may have outright picked up some votes from the purple people / the not yet decided… but Trump may have inflicted substantial losses upon himself … and the GOP … by creating much nausea among the “generally Republican” crowd… not necessarily creating votes for Biden … but … creating massive misgivings about supporting Trump’s ugliness.
Trump may have created massive voter suppression …on the fringe of his base.
How, when and how precisely do the pollsters ferret out a confident assessment of that .
I think this could be significant … could make the difference between solid but eventual (Wed evening) & contested win for Biden… and a landslide … done Tuesday night… and no viable path to contesting outcome.

I don’t need any more, not that I needed this one. Seemed like just more of what I already thought of Trump.

For at least a month or so there was an undercurrent of serious concern in the GOP I’ve been reading about, and muttering that if Trump hadn’t somehow turned things around by Labor Day he was on his own. I would question whether the real power brokers even want to contest the election. It would have been bad enough if Trump had replicated his usual post-pandemic public appearances last night. But it was far worse. If you could keep this guy and the damage he’s doing all around him, or cut him loose and rebuild, what would you do?

OOOOOK , Kayleigh. Fauxnooz is now a liberal, Biden loving fake news media outlet? Scheming to make theTrump temper tantrums look like anything but what they are?? It may be that even Fauxnooz has had enough of this petulant, vindictive Bozo. Personal attacks against Biden is ALL he has.
No policies, no plans…NADA.

Trump’s purpose last night was 1) to stymie Biden from delivering a cogent, coherent policy exposition and 2) rally his troops for civil war in November.

The latest Josh essay (entltled The Morning After) touches on Trump’s ugliness in the sense of our being trapped with an abuser.

Trump will lose some people. My wife has some anecdotal gems from some Republicans she knows.

I’m not inclined to pay any attention to or agree with what a bunch of media pundits who are upset because their nice show turned ugly are saying about this.
