Members of the House Freedom Caucus repeatedly pressed during a Tuesday press conference that an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden has nothing to do with their ongoing efforts to drive the government into a shutdown unless a list of their demands are met.
The truth is, the nutters want a shutdown and are not going to let McCarthy buy them off with a performative impeachment, or let him off the hook on any of the promises they extracted from him so he could be Speaker, no matter how much he wiggles. The nutter’s ace sex traffiker reminds everyone of that in no uncertain terms right on the House floor. Sure they want the impeachment but they ain’t stopping there, oh no.
Um, didn’t Gaetz just today DEMAND an Impeachment Inquiry as one of the conditions to not oust McCarthy?
Or is this just semantics? Impeach or we oust. Meet our budget/culture war demands or we oust. But the two are not “linked,” there, don’t you see it??? *(&^%$#@!
Lying freaks. When members of your ‘caucus’ or whatever they are calling hate groups like these people appear all over the news demanding an ‘impeachment’ based on unproven evidence then yeah. You are trying to cover your collective asses because you don’t have squat.
If DOJ had properly indicted Scott Perry and Jim Jordan for their participation in Jan 6, maybe they wouldn’t feel so emboldened. In no other country of the world are criminals so coddled.
Not that I’m surprised, but Perry (R-asshat) bullying the reporter with his mountain of bullshit and disingenuousness was hard to watch. These f*cking people really know no bottom. Their evidence continues to be, “we have evidence.”
Regardless if impeachment was a demand from insurrection caucus or not, impeachment does allow McCarthy breathing room to stop a Government shutdown regardless if said caucus wants one or not.
I mean think if McCarthy uses Democratic votes to get either a budget or continuing resolution passed and an impeachment inquiry is ongoing, what would happen if suddenly McCarthy receives a vote of no confidence. It would pretty much stop the impeachment inquiry in its tracks. That is the House cannot both be impeaching the president while at the same time it is overthrowing its Speaker and going through the replacement process.
So regardless of any deal, by beginning impeachment McCarthy mostly assures that anyone who is supportive of the move cannot vote against McCarthy because if McCarthy does fall, impeachment will come to a halt. So by moving forward with impeachment, regardless of what McCarthy does on the budget, those who support impeachment must support McCarthy regardless of what else he does because to oust McCarthy is to kill any impeachment.
Has shutting the government down ever benefited the GOP politically? Keeping in mind that impeaching Bill Clinton helped him and hurt the GOP politically.
It’s like they only got a couple of moves, and the fact that those moves haven’t worked before and don’t seem likely to work now doesn’t stop them from just…doing it again.
“It’s time to fight and if it shuts the government down, shut it down,” Norman told reporters on the House steps following the press conference. “It’s my message.”
“If this is to be our Little Bighorn, so be it,” he added.
Yes, put now, unlike back in the 1990s during the Clinton impeachment, a significant part of the population is in a hermetically sealed right wing media silo that no disinfecting sunlight can penetrate . . . .
And please can we stop calling the extreme right actors like Perry, MTG and Gaetz “conservatives” There is nothing conservative about these revanchanist lying fascists.
