Throughout their multiple appearances on Sunday cable news shows, neither Defense Secretary Mark Esper nor National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien could confirm that President Trump had specific intelligence that top Iranian military official Qasem Soleimani threatened to target four U.S. embassies.
They had “exquisite intelligence”. Intelligence they won’t share with the Gang of Eight, because, apparently, their patriotism is in question, but they’ll gladly, even eagerly, share with Lavrov in the Oval Office.
Not good when even lapdogs like Gaetz, Lee, and Rand Paul are calling you out.
I dare say between Pelosi’s bosslike performance on ABC, and the weak-kneed responses by Trump’s enablers, today was not a good day for Trump. And next week will bring even more leaks.
O.M.G. This means had the embassy been leveled by a bomb or missile, no one would have alerted the souls that work in it? Everything was moving too fast? Gobsmackingly irresponsible. They all need to resign tomorrow…
the embassy in Baghdad was not warned of a threat because it was a “very fast-moving situation.”
Esper said that Trump never claimed to have “specific intelligence” that Soleimani planned to attack four U.S. embassies, but that he shared the President’s “belief” that was the case.
Note to Esper: you can’t turn a lie into the truth by telling more lies.
They are desperate to defend a cognitively impaired, ignorant man. There was no intelligence that supported Trump but Trump believed four embassies were in danger of imminent attack. Therefore based on nothing but Trump’s gut or whatevs our government kills Soleimani. Breathtaking really.
OT: I had missed this little gem from Pelosi’s interview this morning. Stephanopoulos asks her if we’re doing enough to safeguard our elections from Russian interference. And she responds not just with, with Trump, “All roads lead to Putin” -twice- but goes on to “wonder” about Mitch McConnell as well. Pretty powerful for the leader of the House to directly call out the leader of the Senate. She really took McConnell to the woodshed today.
Schiff was on Face the Nation and he eviscerated the Administration, placing the inadequacy of the so-called briefing in higher than high relief.
He also indicated (like Pelosi before him) that the House could call John Bolton. They are daring and double daring McConnell. And I think something’s really in the wind. The Times reported at the outset that Bolton’s testimony would be damaging to the adminstration. I think Pelosi and Schiff know just how damaging. And they may already know Bolton would be willing to appear before the House.
MARGARET BRENNAN: And the speaker was on another network today and seemed to leave open the idea of subpoenaing John Bolton, the former national security adviser to the president. Is that something you would be looking at? Are you looking at?
REP. SCHIFF: You know, it’s certainly something that we are considering. But look, Americans want to see a fair trial in the Senate. They want to see a trial that’s fair to the president and they want to see a trial that’s fair to the American people, that brings all the facts forward.
“Trump Admin Can’t Confirm ‘Specific’ Location of their Anuses Despite Using Both Hands and a Flashlight.” “It didn’t make any sense, we looked everywhere, even in the trash bins,” said an official close to the situation who desired to remain anonymous”
