Surgeon General Jerome Adams on Sunday said that the Trump administration is now attempting to “correct” its previous guidance on wearing masks as coronavirus cases continue to surge across the country.
The problem I see with the Great Mask Mess-up is that early on even the CDC wasn’t recommending wearing a mask. I don’t blame them for this. This is the prime example of the scientific process. As more information about how the virus spreads, the examples of the countries in Asia that did a better job of controlling the virus, and discovery/realization that the strain that infected NYC came from Europe and not China meant that as new information came in, processes and procedures would change.
The question is who dug their heels in and didn’t adapt to the new information?
“We’re trying to correct that messaging,” Adams said. “But it’s very hard to do.”
No, it is not hard to do.
Look at Josh’s post with ‘pandemic czar’ Admiral Giroir. If Trump and the Republican lackeys in Congress would push these points 24/7, we would shut down this surge in 2-4 weeks.
ADM. BRETT GIROIR: Like I said, avoid bars, because they really do spread. Restaurant capacity down 50 percent, hand hygiene, and please wear a mask in public. That is really really really important. We’ve got to have 90 or 95 percent adherence to that
The only reason always was a supply issue. Until they settled on homemade and cloth masks as a substitute, any recommendation to wear would have destroyed what little supply was available.
However, Adams said that the Trump administration is “trying to correct” its mixed messaging on masks during his Sunday morning appearance on the program. The surgeon general’s remarks came a day after President Trump sported a mask publicly for the first time during a visit to Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
Adams then claimed that he has “consistently” urged the public to wear a face covering to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the past three months.
Congratulations, General Adams. You just threw Trump under the bus, but you are correct. We’ve known about the benefits of mask wearing for at least 3 months now.
OK, Dr. Adams (and I am somewhat reluctant to use that title, as it no longer seems to be ethically honorable or obtained),
Just when is it that you might learn that TKEHT (Trump Kills Everything He Touches)?
Get out when you can, because you are now placed by the WH in the same category as Dr. Fauci. A NOTHING BURGER.
It’s not hard, doc. It’s just that your boss is a sociopath criminal huckster, and all he cares about is himself. He, with the help of you and the rest of his bootlickers, created this problem. It would get better if he would call a press conference, admit his errors (for time’s sake we can limit that to COVID-related errors), introduce Dr. Fauci, and then step aside. Permanently.
He is absolutely right that there was a time when asymptomatic spreading was not known and people were not being urged to wear masks to protect others.
But the time to correct those messages was in March.
Forgive me for being skeptical about them having seen the light when they’re actively feeding oppo research on Fauci to news organizations and demanding kids return to school without a plan to keep them safe.
Put the damn mask on in public, make its use mandatory, and stop holding rallies. Then I might take you seriously.
