ACLU Asks For Sanctions In Census Case | Talking Points Memo

The ACLU has won its legal war with the Trump administration over a census citizenship question, but it’s not backing down from its demand that certain administration officials be sanctioned for allegedly false testimony in the case.

Time to donate to the ACLU again, pretty sure my membership is up to date.

Yes! More of this please. What they did seems as serious as selling illegal cigarettes and they should be properly punished for it.

What sanctions?

Donations to the ACLU action fund may not be deductible but they are laudable. https://action.aclu.org/give/fund-every-fight-ahead?CID=7014A000001jne3QAA&ms_aff=NAT&initms_aff=NAT&ms=190423_SEM_Search-Email_Google_ACLU_Donate_%2Baclu%20%2Bdonation_b_345037627661&initms=190423_SEM_Search-Email_Google_ACLU_Donate_%2Baclu%20%2Bdonation_b_345037627661&ms_chan=sem&initms_chan=sem&ms_ex=BPI&initms_ex=BPI&kpid=go_1814102583_77901377908_345037627661_aud-652939077727:kwd-389580472231_c_&gclid=CjwKCAjw67XpBRBqEiwA5RCocfw4UiU8nY2gc0p0ueqiBx--WAPdsUB22u15clRHPSiefDeWteRwKxoCn2QQAvD_BwE

Disbarment?

  1. Naming and shaming the attorneys and officials involved in the pretextual cover-up by making express findings about it.

  2. Waiving privilege to get at otherwise undiscoverable materials.

  3. Award of attorney fees to compensate the plaintiffs for all the work their lawyers had to do going through discovery and litigation on the pretext.

Judges can’t disbar. But they can refer you to the applicable disciplinary bodies of the state/district bar.

I increased my monthly donation by 20 bucks a few days ago.

I must be psychic.

Can you explain what is meant by waiving privilege here? Any new information found may be applicable to the inevitable battles to come over using citizenship in the 2021 redistricting.

Actions have consequences. Wouldn’t it be sweet to deprive these SOBs of their livelihood.

Might make others pay more attention in the future. (vindictive? - you bet)

(Just made a donation)

Infractions (should) have consequences.

So what odds the judge permits the sanctions discovery? I’d say high, because the defendants disrespected the court and clowned the judge with their repeated “we have an argument but we can’t reveal it yet, oops, no we don’t” behavior. OTOH judges love to clear the docket and he might just want to put this behind him, though it is not EDVA rocket docket.

This is obviously the kind of fire that we are looking for from the Congress. Hold this POTUS accountable as well as his admin. The swamp is thick and murky but it is obvious to us all that it is built on a house of cards because they are all cowards.

Excellent move, ACLU. Make the Trump regime liars pay for it.

Pay attention, House Democrats. Being a spineless weenie doesn’t work.

Go get 'im, ACLU.

Just put my money where my mouth is and signed up for a monthly contribution. Feels damn good.

It’s definitely the right thing to do. The Reps have shown no hesitation to lie in court. Nailing them every time is critical, and that includes referral to their local bars.

Good on you. I have been sending them a monthly contribution for years and years. I got a notice today that they have filed suit to stop the order banning asylum seekers.
