A 15-Week Gestational Ban Is In No Way A ‘Late-Term’ Abortion Ban

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) plans to unveil a new national abortion ban Tuesday afternoon — the so-called “Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act.”

It’s like Republicans are wanting to lose.

I thought Rick Scott was the hardest worker leading Republicans to defeat in the Senate. I see now that Lindsey Graham is in strong contention for this top role.

“The timing of the introduction is striking: just a couple months before the midterms, in an environment where Republicans are becoming increasingly nervous about the electoral backlash, particularly from women…”

The GOP doubles down, triples down, and quadruples down on idiocy.

They’ve become so addicted to their White Evangelical Crack that they can’t quit now.

So back to their dealer they go…

It’s all they’ve known since Reagan, and they think a minority of loonies is gonna save them from what’s coming in November – and it’s coming.

The worse thing is that they don’t need to be pandering to those guys, they aren’t voting democratic any time soon.

This is what I thought this was about. Redefining what a “late term” abortion is. They don’t care about passing the law, all you will hear is a steady drumbeat tying “15 weeks=late term” into the national consciousness. Will make it easier for them to paint anything else as extreme and cruel. They will take a short term loss for the long term gain they’re after.

What a gift to the Democrats! Thanks, Lindsey!

(Don’t look now, but your hubris is showing!)

Esp not for Tim Scott who thinks pregnancy lasts for 52 weeks.s/

Any woman who has had a baby knows that 15 weeks is not late term. I’ve had two. I don’t know why Graham thinks he knows anything about pregnancy or birth. A 15 week fetus is not capable of living outside the womb.

This isn’t about trying to convince the undecided voter to vote Republican. It is about creating a moral case for ending democracy. For those who believe that abortion is equivalent to murder, circumscribing democracy to end abortion rights is just.

The Republican leadership thinks their best bet at this point is to lean into Democrat’s focus on abortion. They figure they can’t stop it, so they might as well get the base (and fundamentalist judge) energizing benefits.

It’s a hail Mary pass, we need to make sure it doesn’t land.

Biden and Harris both said that the GOP would impose a national ban on abortion. That’s what this is. This plays right into Dem messaging. Dems just need to triple down.

The pundits are furiously scrubbing their prior statements about how special elections are signs of what might happen in the general election because it doesn’t fit a GOP wave narrative. Right now, the Dems are in a good position which is improving.

Each quarter of the Biden Presidency has presented unique issues which shift the political discourse and can change the political environment. What will be the surprise for these final 2 months of the campaign? I think the Ukraine counteroffensive is one of them, and that plays into Biden’s hands. This abortion ban bill also helps the Dems as it validates their narrative. Inflation report was pretty good for the Ds but some are crowing about ‘core inflation’ being high. The truth is, I think Americans are ok with some higher prices for substitutable goods and services if it means more folks have jobs and get paid more. What they don’t like is essential goods like gas being high. The fact that Biden has brought that down has made a tangible impression with the voters. There is at least 1 more set of inflation/jobs reports to go before the midterm, but I expect September to be pretty good because it’s generally a busier month than August. That should set the table nicely for Dems to drive up their vote in the final month.

A third event or surprise is the Biden resurgence in the polls. The last few polls are putting his approval rating closer to 47%, which is very good for an incumbent in the first midterm. There’s only 1 precedent I can think of where the incumbent surged prior to the first midterm and that was Bush in 2002. His party won the midterms btw.

A fourth event is, obviously, Trump. He’s just getting killed with the public over his incessant criminality being exposed. He has crossed the line so badly on stealing government secrets that the country will more than accept an indictment as legitimate. Garland has to navigate some of the Trumper judges, but I think he’s going to get there.

Sometimes it is hard to rekindle that old flame if you have to rely on artificial means since Roe can no longer get it done…

“Honey, I’ve brought you a shiny new ban! I’m sorry I wasn’t able to reach the election.”

Blue state abortion ban and any red state that allows abortion beyond 15 weeks.

Lindsey Graham professes to believe that it is fine to murder innocent fetuses up to 15 weeks of gestation, and I am 100% sure that the anti-abortion zealots he wants to cater to will be absolutely cool and satisfied with that dumb position.

Is it possible that Lindsey Graham actually wants the Democrats to keep control of Congress because he’s afraid of Trump regaining power if the Republicans win in November? I’m saying this because I really don’t think abortion bans are popular politics anywhere right now so, why is he doing this?

Especially if you live in a state that passes a law that says life begins at conception. Never mind that conception means implantation, which is what the Plan B pill prevents.
I wonder how this states will handle the “God failed to protect fertilized eggs” from not implanting?

And… the most vocal at putting it out there will be MSM “explaining what it all means”; giving it the oxygen it doesn’t need. Then NPR and others will explain… but no one will refute.
Democrats simply do not have a megaphone loud enough to call out the bullshit.
