About 2 blocks away from Kedzie where the shooting happened.
The old lady was freaking out. A FB page for Brighton Park was alerting people where ICE was popping up. It was pretty hectic.

I need translation help. “Safe streets” seems to mean “application of unconstitutional crowd control measures,” “ceasefire” means “blowing up 104 people,” and “climate change “ is something with massive documentation that is nevertheless imaginary. It’s more clallenging than Newspeak.

Pro Publica has reported that ICE has detained about 170 Americans citizens during these raids. And they haven’t been Kavanaugh styled interactions. Some American citizens have been held for days w/o being able to call their families or a lawyer.
And the way that ICE agents seem to like to destroy other people’s property do the folks in cities where ICE is active need to talk to their insurance agent about some sort of ICE rider for their vehicle?

Every morning I wake up here in Belize and check the status of the world. I go to CNN for major headlines and breaking news then over to TPM to get the actual stories behind all that. But it gets more and more difficult to even look at, and I can only imagine having it happen around me. Government agents terrorizing ordinary citizens with impunity, news outlets parroting false information, shadowy billionaires fleecing the treasury while a demented figurehead capers like a monkey on the world stage. And all of this coming about in only 10 months time. I wonder if I ran far enough away but suspect that nowhere is safe now….

I’ll say again that I think some kind of analogy to colonization is apt. This is the red states’ attempt to subdue and subjugate populations which, despite being part of this country, they have been generationally programmed to view as foreign entities full of foreign people who are “savages”, less than human, deserve and even “need” to be conquered and brought to heel and controlled…whose domination is justified and something to which they are entitled as superior and the very SOURCE of “civilization”. These areas and populations must not be allowed to govern themselves lest they fail to become civilized and cannot be trusted to manage their resources without their betters first seizing possession of those resources and determining for them how they will best serve “civilization,” which throughout history has invariably meant “redistribute them to ourselves and for our own benefit.” Sure, it’s internal and all within our own nation’s borders, but it speaks to the very real balkanization of the country, both geographically and culturally. I don’t really know what else to call it, so I latched onto colonization.
The reality is that IT IS THEY WHO REFUSE TO ASSIMILATE. It all changed for their grandpappies when they lost the war, it kept changing for their pappies and themselves, they hated it and the people changing everything, but they couldn’t stop it and it has taken from them the dominance over everything and EVERYONE that they think is their divine, god-decreed, natural-law, truth-of-the-universe right, so they’ve tried to take the ball and go home while simultaneously demanding that they also own the playing field and get to determine who even gets to use it.

I’ve been thinking about retribution in the future. I don’t want to think about it anymore. First, the future is not when we are experiencing problems. We’re experiencing problems now. Second, Trump is going to pardon everybody, so legal accountability is not going to happen after Trump.
We need to, nearly impossible as it seems, do everything we can to seek relief now, not retribution tomorrow, because there is no future.

This happened fairly early on in the Chicagoland invasion; the goons shot and killed an undocumented Hispanic man in Franklin Park (an inner circle suburb) while he was trying to escape. DHS public statements about the incident said he had driven his car like a “murderer” - but subsequent local media coverage tempered that: he had been cited for driving with a muffler too loud (which I have done back when money was tight) and similar - the worst I saw was that he had been cited for driving in excess of 30 mph over the speed limit. I don’t know where that was but, having spent time on the Tri-State between the city and the WI border, I can tell you that speeders doing 30 mph or more over the speed limit are by no means rare (I don’t like it, but it’s fairly common).
They lie; they will continue to lie, so as to demonize the victims. They want you to think “meh, the guy was a dirtbag, so too bad for his family but he had it coming.”
Resist this.

Yesterday multiple sources reported all of Border Patrol and ICE leadership was going through a massive shakeup, due to Trump’s and Miller’s extreme dissatisfaction with the number of daily immigration arrests. From day one of this 2nd term the marching orders have been 3000 arrests per day, and it seems about 1/3rd of that is being achieved. Whatever we read now of BP/DHS/ICE abuses is small potatoes compared to what’s coming.
