For lack of a better term, let’s call it Red culture, which—like the Taliban—is at war with the concept of modernity in the form of equal rights for women and minorities, a non-patriarchal societal structure, liberal democracy, etc.
It’s always been among us; the orange clown just gave face and form to it.

Well, I think this new “art” from the Labor Department (touting Trump’s non-existent economic successes, I guess, is a clear statement of who the White House loves (and loves only) and who the rest of us should also solely worship…
And if you don’t look like this and speak up for and support only people who look like this, your ribs, your freedom, your belongings, your life, etc. are all fair game from Trump’s numerous “law enforcement,” military, intelligence, “justice” and other functionaries to destroy at will. And enjoy themselves doing it. (you might note, Republican women, that the only woman in this white crowd is in a church literally looking up to her man, so you can see what being the wrong sex means for you as well to your party of choice). This whole thing is the white Christian nationalism racist boil exploding all over America (especially in Democratic places).
Alarmingly similar to both Nazi “art” and Soviet realism, isn’t it?

That jibes with my long-held view that in his plaque-ridden brain he is Putin recreating the Russian empire by whitening the cities. Government itself is to be replaced by ballrooms. The new aristocracy is the billionaire class. And the protesters, teachers, and assorted peons, are the anti-czarists who need to be rounded up and sent to the gulag.

Simultaneously, trump is hoping for someone in ICE to be shot and killed. Given the number of guns in Chicago, it’s a matter of time. He’s then hoping that will be his Reichstag fire as the Charlie Kirk thing seemed to have petered out.
Other than a general strike, I don’t know what are next steps will be—withholding paying our federal taxes as the blue states are having their federal aid withheld (SNAP, federal aid for natural disasters, etc.)?

Given that elections are run by the several states, it seems reasonable to my non-lawyer mind that any interference would be a matter to be charged and resolved at the state level, which is to say, not subject to PORUS’s pardonpalooza.

By the way, has anyone seen any detailed reporting of Bovino’s court appearance yesterday? I haven’t been able to find much, though given that Her Honor has now ordered him to report to the court daily on compliance, it sounds like it went real well indeed.

I hate to say it but then wouldn’t the Democrats do well to position themselves more vocally as defenders of the reservists and ICE agents who are being sent into an impossible situation and asked to tear neighborhoods apart?
This is the kind of move that the White House is adept at. It would allow the Democrats to be first out of the box, holding up an ICE casualty as the fault of the administration and an indictment of their militarization of “immigration policy.”

Per last night’s TeeVee news, he said on the record that he would comply with the court’s order (which I take to be the one prohibiting use of tear gas without advance warning).
As I type, I have to assume he is looking for ambiguities; I find him to be about as trustworthy as Netanyahu.

ETA: The Santa Cruz rally is separate from the one in Watsonville, with Dolores Huerta (yes, she’s still alive and kicking) speaking.
(Santa Cruz county has a north-south divide. South county is mostly agricultural and centers on the majority-minority city of Watsonville. The major city in the northern, richer, Anglo part of the county has the Spanish name. You can tell when you’ve crossed the line based on the quality of the road maintenance.)

This was at the intersection of Wilson and Sawyer, about 8 blocks from our digs - the vid depicts an example of warning-less use of tear gas. You can see one of the goons is apparently Hispanic, so protesters were yelling “Your own people!” - and he’s wearing a Cubs hat, which was probably a mistake in this part of town The woman in the bathrobe had her foot run over by one of the ICE paddy wagons.
