The Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority ruled Thursday that two restrictive voting policies in Arizona did not violate the Voting Rights Act. The majority opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito laid out the “guideposts” for courts to consider in deciding whether a state’s election rules have the effect of discriminating against minority voters.
Fuck…Fuck…Fuck. The irony that a court that can only vote this way because of Who?'s evil appointments made this decision on the same day that Who?'s organization is indicted.
AND…they struck down a California Law that required the disclosure of large donors to charities.
The 50 Republican senators represent 43.6% of the U.S. population. And that number is declining.
The Supreme Court represents a minority of the population. With gerrymandering, the House may be taken over by Republicans and represent a minority of the population.
It’s a perfectly consistent ruling from these asshole fascists. The constitution originally gave the vote exclusively to white male landowners. That’s where this is headed, even that clown Thomas s on board with that.
Dems must respond decisively. Three things: Pass a strong voting rights act NOW; expand the Court to 15, NOW; and D.C statehood, NOW. No more bringing knives to the gunfight.
Of course it won’ Especially when you have a bunch of fascists cosplaying a new organization and sniffing, "Oh look more left wing radicals looking for more handouts and “rights.” The well is poisoned and 74MM Americans are okay with it.
Every one of these “reforms” will be upheld. Until people get off their asses and VOTE, nothing will change. Gaining additional Senate seats is DOABLE. So aggravating.
What did folks expect? Voting restrictions are essential if the GOP is to survive. The folks that said OK to this are all GOP’ers. This was a ruling for the Republican Party not the USA.
Recall Karl Rove said the “permanent Republican majority” will be won at the state level. All Republican state legislature now will legalize all imaginary restrictions short of a poll tax. It’ll be race to the bottom for those states
