Originally published at: 5 Points On The Funding Bill Johnson And Trump Want To Squeeze Through The House
The week in which Republicans must find a way to fund the government has arrived. Without new legislation, a shutdown will begin on Friday, March 14. House Republicans released their continuing resolution, aka CR, on Saturday, laying out legislation that they hope to use to fund the government until September 30 — the end of…
Trump ran on a populist agenda. One wonders when those who bought into his BS will realize that they were scammed. Much of the Dept. of Education funding goes to Red States. Plus, when those Trumpers on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security come to this realization, one would think that they are going to go ape sh_t. It’s going to get increasingly uglier, probably sooner rather than later. The con man has conned many of his enablers.
Speaker Johnson can go pound sand, for all I care. He’s a weak little man…much like the leader of his party. Stand strong, Democrats! Our Republic is at stake.
Republican economic policy
and the money runs out late Friday night.
Money has run out.
Money is running out.
Money will run out.
Our taxes will go up.
I dunno. You are talking about serious levels of scales falling from people’s eyes. If Fox or WSJ say it was the fault of Biden or leprechauns, it’s an easier buyoff than self-failure.
OTOH, a lot of people are financially fragile and it’s going to be hard to ignore when that reality kicks in.
I don’t want to project more spine on Senate Democrats than they deserve, but it seems to me that Point 5 actually helps them hold ground. As opposed to forcing Democrats’ hand, the House leaving town allows Democrats to say, "We’re willing to negotiate how to best fund the government to protect Americas, but the House Republicans are so sure of their plan to rule over their constituents that they’ve decided not to work during this important time.
Now, I think we all know that almost none of the Democratic Senators would say that (certainly none of the leadership). But it still leaves open a path for statement that is much more mealy mouthed and weak.
I agree for the most part, but when people get hit in the wallet, or their standard of living, or their dignity, or their will to live, they can either see the light or rationalize just about anything.
Who the heck is Bill Johnson?
I thought Trump was the one being whipped. And that there are pictures of that in Moscow.
Based on the following, one wonders what Bible Mike Johnson reads as it is contrary to most, if not all, of his policy prescriptions:
Johnson speaks openly and comfortably about his faith. “I am a Bible-believing Christian,” he told Sean Hannity in his first interview as speaker. “Someone asked me today in the media, they said, ‘It’s curious. People are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?’ I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it.’ That’s my worldview. That’s what I’m believe.”
I just emailed both my senators, asking how they intend to vote and urging them to vote no. There’s no point emailing my rep, Boebert. She’s probably drooling over the opportunity to vote yes. In fact, she’s probably drooling anyway. Her newsletter is an ongoing embarrassment to me.
But the Dems have to DO SOMETHING! And if you don’t like it, did they do the wrong thing/
I thought Boebert was too busy drooling over Kid Rock…
We are years past the expiration date on this one. You must let it go, my dear sir. Chuck it out with as much force as you can muster because it a false hope and false belief. This unserious country with its deeply dumb populace does not learn lessons or anything else, for that matter.
When will they ‘get’ it. All I see is the Manchurian Candidate. Fkn freaks.
In reverse order:
Why would Republican Congress critters be eager to be back home in their district? They’ve been hiding from from the voters.
Why is Johnson trying to give up his power as SOTH?
Why are they increasing ICE’s funding when they chosen the most expensive way to detain/deport undocumented folks?
My other ask is where is the money paying for DOGEr’s coming from? Is it part of OPM or a separate entity. Doesn’t this have to be addressed since DOGE wasn’t a thing when this was originally created.
House not sure if every Rethug is on board? All it takes is a little cash from the dictator and problem solved.
And, if it passes the House, the Dems in the Senate have to vote no. We’ve already got a weird shutdown on many levels and the evil felon/Elmo can’t be allowed to take even more money away to line their pockets.
Don’t think I’ve ever thought a shut down was the best idea until now. Have given feedback to both Senators. They’re being wishy washy which I don’t understand. People aren’t going to forget if the Dems don’t bloody stand up.
I hope the Senate Dems stand fast - let the weaselly little “preacher” of the House deal with a shut down. If he thinks it’s not worth keeping the House in session, then so be it. It’s on the ‘pubbies who won’t stay in town long enough to do their god damned jobs.
Hmm, these “questions” are suspiciously Antifa-like, possibly DEI motivated. Good thing I bookmarked the Citizen Denunication website for this…
The only hope of getting rid of Musk starts with at least a month-long government shutdown. Everyone will blame the Republicans, because that’s how it always works (except the GOP doesn’t ever seem to lose voters because of shutdowns).
It looks like a shutdown will be necessary but not sufficient to restore the rule of law. For that we need an effective opposition party.
