5 Points Of What To Make Of The Insane Early Voting Numbers We’re Seeing | Talking Points Memo

People are voting early in this pandemic election at volumes they have never voted early before. Late last week, with 11 days still to go before Nov. 3, the number of early votes cast surpassed the total early vote in 2016.

So officials are deliberately planning to understaff polling places on election day? What, to save money?

“4. The Lone Star State is leading the early vote surge.”
Texans should naturally prefer bluebonnets over red caps.

This is of a piece with the surprising weakness of democratic institutions in the face of Trumpian aggression. Of all the “guardrails of democracy” one would think the voting process paramount yet here we see, yet again, its apparent fragility; how subject it is to human misjudgement or error, never mind malice.

Should we win this fight, and we must, there will be much more than the judiciary requiring reform.

on a scale of 1-10 … Absolutely need to ratchet it up to a "2020"

it really needs to get to a point where the shear overwhelming magnitude of the numerical superiority of the Democratically inclined voters is brought forcefully to bear! A huge Blue Tsunami !

Totally devastatingly sweep the son-of-a-bitch out of office … and every sycophant GOP senator that can conceivably be dislodged needs to be blasted into oblivion too!

Leave NO ROOM for whining that he was “robbed”

Democrats can do a lot in four to five days.

We had better.

I can still sense that we may have the correct mix of confidence/optimism and caution/resolve that we need.

Ambrose, when writing about D-Day, made several points about preparation, resolve and individuals for whom “getting the job DONE”** was a greater factor than all the handwringing implied in articles like this one.

There are decent plans (which a Congresswoman who talked with O’Donnell pointed out)…the nub is Execution and I know what she meant…than each person who wants Trump gone is going to have to make the best effort that they can possibly achieve.

**The reader of Ambrose’s work comes away with the impression that it was the inventiveness, zeal in adapting to conditions on the ground and RESOLVE of personnel ranging from private to general, along with Company Grade and Non-Commissioned Officers, which made Overlord a success

In Westchester County, all early voting locations I know about have two (2) voting machines. Two.

… it is high time that Texas recognize Trump as the smarmy adulterous criminal charlatan city-slicker that he is!

It would seem that Texans just would be more comfortable with & heed the advice of a guy like Woody Guthrie than a bunch of crooks like the Trumps …

Louisiana, like Texas, kept absentee voting limited in the pandemic

My dear Republican compatriots, with regard your leader’s push to make voting hard and to stop the counting, let me say one word…

Hurricanes.

We’re going to have hurricanes in November now. Do you know which region they hit?

While the ghost of 2016 is everywhere, I’m heartened by the pictures I’m seeing of early-voters across this country. The pictures show people wearing masks. That means they are Democrats. Most outlets are predicting a Republican surge of voting on election day. If the pictures from election day show little or no mask-wearing, then the prediction will hold true. We’ll see what happens. In the meantime, no matter what, vote!!

I think North Carolina will be the first state to give us a clue as to what will happen November 3. Most of the votes (perhaps >60%) will have been counted by the time the polls close there because so many people voted early and in person. If Biden is ahead by, say, 6% when the polls close, it will probably be a very good night for the Dems. If he’s tied or, god forbid, behind, It might be time to start planning a move to Canada.

We’ll see.

Point number 6–

People like to vote in a manner and time that’s convenient for them. The notion of a single day when all voters must cast ballots is quaint minus the charm.

Some experts credited the steps county officials have taken to make in-person early voting accessible, while others noted that even with the tight absentee rules, way more Texans are using vote-by-mail than usual.

Some but dwarfed by in person voting.

Checking out Early Voting Turnout by Date from TX SoS we see Harris County had 1,051,892 cumulative in person votes as of 10/27/20 and 158,190 cumulative mail in - about 13%. It’s about 10-13% for the top 5 counties.

Eye ball comparison to 2016 General Election Early Vote totals looks like while mail in volume has about doubled we’re also seeing greater in-person turnout.

WARE A MASK AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING AND WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN AND VOTE FOR BIDEN/HARRIS AND WATCH OBAMA’S SPEECH IN FLORDIA.

This is going to be a tRump wipeout in a giant blue tsunami wave for democracy.

Oh sure. Like that somehow “hurts” him? Texans elected a Mr. “Jesse James” as their state treasurer for 36 years (1941 until his death in 1977), apparently due to “name recognition.”

UPDATE: I forgot the even better part. After Mr. James’s death, voters replaced him with Warren G. Harding.

Bingo! We need to move to considering “Election Day” as “Last Chance to Vote!!” day.

Forget all the antiquated proposals of “Make Election Day a National Holiday!” and “Move Election Day to the Weekend!”. Weeks of early in-person voting, plus no-fault absentee, are happening throughout the country NOW, and are both smarter and better solutions.

Move to Canada? Canada won’t let American covid carriers across their borders. I am an American citizen and I will fight for my country and against fascism as long as I live. We don’t move, we fight.
PS: Do you know how freezing cold Canada is in the winter?

Ware a mask and practice social distancing and wash your hands often and vote for BIDEN/HARRIS.
