Unfortunately, I have a strong suspicion that his handlers have told him over and over that he has only sworn to “preserve, protect and defend” the Constitution, so he can give this kind of answer to any question that uses a different word. That’s exactly what he was doing in his first term when he said he never swore t0 “support” the Constitution. Tricksy sophomoric faux legalese crap is the stock in trade of the whole Trump regime in their arguments, and this dumb-ass thing is part of it…
Any reporter who asks him this brand of question absolutely should be using the word “preserve” or “protect” or “defend” so they can slap the oath right back at him if he tries to make the kind of responses he does. He would certainly give them some other crap answer – however, he would also then be on record as denying the actual words of the oath precisely as it’s laid out in the Constitution and which he twice took…and if that happened a few times, it would at least advance the case against him a millimeter or so…And yet I haven’t yet seen any of these big-time reporters having the sense to do that. I know this probably seems like a small and dumb complaint from me – but when you talk to slippery people you have to force them on the record in any way you can, no matter how trivial-seeming.

One would think impeachment would be on the menu if Congress were a sane bunch.

Divide by two. Some quibble in that some of these are US-made films. OTOH as an undergrad I had a roomie who insisted Bo was a 20.

This is definitely a new shiny object. What was wrong with the deterrent effect of deportation to a foreign gulag?

We’re assuming 100% reciprocal tariffs on American Movies.

You know, I never thought the collapse of America would have taken this bizarre turn, but in hindsight, I should have expected it all along.

Just waiting for the two new films from Dinesh D’Souza–“250 Pencils” and “300 Dolls”…

I suspect that the French, the Koreans and others are rooting for Trump to slap tariffs on movies, then the rest of the can slap retaliatory tariffs on American made movies and music, creating a boon for their own entertainment business.

Do we really have to bring Elmo back to Congress in a suit and tie for an open hearing again like they did in the early aughts? Does he have to state that he’s never, not now or ever, been a member of the Communist party?
Seems so. But it probably wouldn’t do much good with these crazy pukes.

Today’s Heather Cox Richardson and Paul Krigman:
Strongly recommend Alex Gibney’s two part documentry on HBO “The Dark Money Game.”
Depressing , but extremely well crafted and clear exposition of what we’re up against and how we got here.
