2020 Census Undercounted Hispanic Americans At Triple The Rate Of 2010 | Talking Points Memo

The 2020 U.S. census undercounted the Hispanic or Latino population at triple the rate that it did in 2010, according to analyses of the decennial survey released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday.

Silver lining: More minority voters than Republicans thought when they were gerrymandering legislative districts.

Feature, not bug…this was the intent of the people running the Census bureau under Trump, to get more white people and, therefore, more Republicans elected. The Census people did what they could, but the sabotage was clear. It makes it very important that we have a Democratic administration in 2030, so they run a census that is accurate, otherwise the same thing will happen again.

I have seen first hand some of the dilemmas presented, both intentional and unintentional.

Census officials noted several challenges in the 2020 count, including the COVID-19 pandemic and several natural disasters.

And Wilbur Ross and Donald Trump.

Can’t the Census be redone before that, or did I dream that?
Yes, more money would have to be spent.

Be sure to keep voting GOP, Latinos. They always have your best interests at heart.

How completely unsurprising. Once again the previous “Administration” failed to faithfully execute the laws. Who could have predicted??

A fact that our Media Glitterati won’t bother state, but certainly will frame this as a problem for Biden and Dems who need to do more to reach minorities.

All so-called groups have variations that are coin flicks to “evaluate”. Many years ago I taught an ESL course in which one of the students surprised** me by stating that she was white.

**my surprise was due more to the setting of the class than anything else and, in addition, I was confident that she would be readily seen as white.

I agree. All Biden would have to do is ask Congress to write the bills and vote yes.

While he’s at it, he can ask the Senate to vote on the USPS governors that he nominated in mid Nov. of 2021. And then ask DOJ to investigate whether Wilbur Ross is dead yet . If not, charge and arrest him.

Theoretically. The one time a Census was done too poorly, so they just ignored the results. Every Census has errors, they do use statistics for some of the counting…and they always undercount the Black and Latino vote, so that won’t be enough reason to dump this one (though it should be). Doing another count would be seen as political, instead of the adjustment that it should be, so that and the cost will make it a non-starter.

The important question is if it affected apportionment…if, say, NY or CA were undercounted and lost their seats because of it, while a Republican state gained because of the overcount of white voters, there may be ground for an equal protection lawsuit. If money is pulled out of certain areas, same deal. It’s especially bad because there were stories of intentionally not counting Black and Latino areas, especially at the end of the process.

Gee, the “Build the Wall” racist administration somehow undercounted hispanics in the census?

Who could have predicted that?

They were perfectly incompetent, every day and in every way.

What would it have looked like if Trump & Wilbur Ross had NOT been able to get their way and abruptly announce “PENCILS DOWN” earlier that originally planned …

This almost definitely cost Texas a house seat…
