10 Hours, 43 Minutes And 628 Pages Later, COVID Relief Lumbers On

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) made good on his threat to make the Senate clerks read aloud the entire 628-page COVID-19 relief package, an endeavor which stretched from around 3:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon to just past 2:00 a.m. on Friday.

“The senator said he was insisting on the exercise to show people how much of a “boondoggle” the package was, claiming that it’s bloated with unnecessary money and provisions.”

Well, that would be a first.

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone on the floor staff who worked late into the night and into the wee hours of the morning to finish reading the Senate amendment to the American Rescue Plan,” Schumer said as he opened Friday’s proceedings. “And as for our friend from Wisconsin,” he added, “I hope he enjoyed his Thursday evening.”

I hope he didn’t.

We should be taking heart that these pointless acts of desperation are all that the Repugnicant Insurrectionist Party can muster during these dark days, but the weeks they’ve squandered have a profound effect on the bottom of the economic ladder that can’t be ignored.

Ron Johnson told CNN that people are out to destroy him, thereby shamefully threatening us with a good time.

Since when can’t the bottom of the economic ladder be ignored?

By Senators or citizens?

I vastly prefer not having my neighbors incentivized to steal my catalytic converter, but opinions vary.

Ron Johnson. Making the floor staff suffer so he can make Americans continue tp suffer from lack of relief. Good to see him standing up for Republicans’ core principles.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI): Dumb and Dumber, but neck and neck in a race to see which will be characterized as “Dumb” and which will be characterized as “Dumber.” Stay tuned, the rampant stupidity continues.

What a petty ass, moronic fool. If he wanted it read into the record he should have read it HIMSELF instead of making others do whatever he perceives is his job.

Johnson, often the only senator in the chamber during the marathon read, at times seemed to pretend to pay attention to the bill text, paced around the empty room, sat with his hands in his lap and a legal pad on his desk. At one point around 7:00 p.m while holding his mobile phone Johnson appeared to be celebrating his new Candy Crush high score.

They should have told RoJo that there was going to be a quiz afterwards.

Sen. Ron Johnson

The question that keeps coming into my mind: in a day, a year, an eternity from now, how does he plan not to look like a fucking clown who leaves vulnerable people twisting in the wind with his time-wasting stunts?

Great that Tammy Baldwin was the one who slammed the gavel on three hours of debate. Sucks to be RonJon.

Force the clerks to read for 10 hours to no one, then get lazy and impatient and lose 17 hours of procedural bullshit you had wound up. Yup, RoJo is the avatar of the modern republican troll.
