Discussion: Sanders: Voters Would Choose 'Lesser Of Two Evils' In Trump-Clinton Election

Voters will have a choice between a progressive former Senator and Secretary of State, and a bloviating lying jackass.

As Iā€™d mentioned in my reply to Chammy regarding The Neverending Primaryā€“
itā€™s served the country well this go-round.
Had Sanders-- or Trump-- been able to sell themselves on sizzle aloneā€“
we could be seeing a disaster in the making by having truncated the GE season.

Thanks for the link, progressivedem! One item in particular stood out for me:

Sanders consistently touts his anti-war record. Yet in 1999, he voted in favor of NATOā€™s military mission in Yugoslavia, much to the dismay of his hometown supporters. In fact, his supporters were so upset that they went to Congressman Sandersā€™ office to speak to him or someone with his staff. Sanders was in D.C. but the protesters were promptly arrested without being given an audience. Yup, thatā€™s right. Civil rights hero Bernie Sanders openly arrested protesters in his own congressional office.

Now, how is the ā€œrevolutionā€ supposed to occur again? With people taking to the streets and making it impossible for their elected representatives to simply ignore the will of the people? I realize that you have no actual plans for implementing anything on your agenda but having people arrested just for showing up sounds like it might derail the ā€œrevolutionā€.

Not to mention that harassing, demeaning, or arresting people who disagree is not new, in fact itā€™s, um, very Establishmentā€¦

I think itā€™s Hillary and the lesser of two stupids.

Yes, he did.
I donā€™t boast often of this-- but I was the one that first recognized the results anomalies in Palm Beach County voting and alerted CSPAN and the Michael Savage radio show at approx 7am EST on Nov 8, 2000.

Having pulled an all-nighter working that night-- I was looking often for the Dade and Broward County returns online at the Miami Herald. And when I saw the votes that Nader and Buchanan had pulled versus their statewide FL totals-- I realized there was something amiss in in the Palm Beach County results.

That anomaly opened the door for the contesting of the election, the recount-- and the Brook Bros Riot.
From a perspective of some depth on this?
Iā€™ll easily state that Naderā€™s ego-trip-candidacy cost (D)s, the country and Gore a decade or more of a sh^tstorm.

Nope. Had Gore carried his HOME state, Florida would not have mattered.

Nader begged Gore to start talking about raising the minimum wage, which he refused to do. Maybe if Gore behaved more like a FDR Democrat, he would have won both Florida and Tennessee.

Wow!

That is too damn cool that it was you. Wow

Nader called Gore evil, said Bush and Gore were the same. Regardless if you think Gore should of won even with Nader fighting to take away votes the point still is that Nader was fighting to take away votes for Gore and he got enough votes that cost him the election.

I initially thought Sanders the greater of two goods, until the day he answered ā€œweā€™ll seeā€ to the question whether heā€™d be campaigning for Democrats down-ballot. It became clear that so much talk about political revolution, accompanied by so little of the kind of action it would take to bring it about, is just a recipe for pissed off people feeling cheated for no good reason.

So Florida had nothing to do with that election? So Gore lost Tennessee that bastion of liberal thinking that is embracing all progressive policies? when was the last time a state from the Deep South voted for a Democrat? Clinton and Carter, but those days were gone once the Southern Stategy was complete.

Next you are going to say there would have been no difference between Gore and Bush.

Nope. Only Florida when the fix was in for Bush. You canā€™t have it both ways. Gore cost himself the election.

BTW: How many lives has Ralph Nader saved? Tens of thousands at least?

You should learn about Nader before you criticize.

If you hold the reasonable belief that Nader cost Gore the election, then he has saved negative several hundred thousand lives, by virtue of enabling Bush and his wars.

I know all about Nader.

Heā€™s so unpleasant that even his sister doesnā€™t like him. (I knew her)

His preening self-love is ugly and his inability to admit error is a disqualifier to believing anything he says.

I know a bit about Nader, too.

I knew someone who had joined Naderā€™s Raiders when he was in college. He idolized Ralph until heā€™d worked for him for awhile. He treated his employees like shit.

Nader and Bernie has similar personality flaws, mostly related to their shared belief that they are Saviors and that their political purity makes them infallible and far better than the rest of us.

I really respected Sanders for his positions, and his ability to be a ā€˜Democratic Socialist.ā€™ I thought his goal was simply to move Clinton to the left. I donā€™t know what happened, but heā€™s been really disappointing. Heā€™s coming off like a real jerk.

Despite how combative Bernieā€™s campaign has become, the ā€œlesser of two evilsā€ remark is really startling to me. I get the idea of voting against who you hate more. But that is something average nobodies like me can say out loud, not the person who is running to be the partyā€™s standard bearer. Associating a colleague on your side of the aisle with ā€œevilā€ crosses a line in my opinion. I donā€™t recall seeing that in the heated '08 primary.

I used to really like and respect Bernie Sanders and was glad we had someone like him in the Senate. But this disastrous presidential run has shown me that he has no ability to lead, no class, no grace, no substance, no discipline, no self-awareness, very little integrity, and is a big phony and a hypocrite. Whatā€™s this business with him ā€œquietlyā€ reassuring Dem leaders he wonā€™t blow up the party while simultaneously egging on his rabid fans who think the election is being stolen? Because he wants to remain in the good graces of the ā€œestablishmentā€? Should tell you everything you need to know right there. I hope he gets a taste of his own medicine with a vigorous primary challenge for his Senate seat in '18.

Bernie hasnā€™t talked about issues since some time in January.

Since then, heā€™s done nothing but attack Hillary with unsubstantiated innuendo, smeared her with rumors and phony scandals like her speech transcripts, and attack the Democratic party whose nomination he believes should be handed to him on a silver platter.

Itā€™s Bernie who expected to have a coronationā€”and he still believes heā€™ll be crowned if he yells at that cloud long enough.

Nader saved lives. What have you done?

Bullshit. Nader is a con-man whose 15 minutes were up in 1968.

You are almost as pompous and puffed-up as Ralphy-boy.
