Discussion: Bush: Under My Plan"People Should Work Longer Hours"

“People should work longer hours”, says the man who works no hours. You should thank dog that I don’t ever engage in ad hominem attacks, asshat.

“Minimum wage earners could make up to $45,000 a year. All they must do is work 100 hours a week.” —Jeb Bush

It’s not entirely clear what Bush meant, as opposed to what he said, given Josh’s description. What I imagine Bush meant was that there is an unusually high % of workers who are working involuntary part-time (i.e., ‘underemployed’) – and in fact the GOP likes to focus on them because they blame that on Obamacare and other Obama regulations. Maybe he even was referring to labor force participation, meaning that average hours worked for all adult Americans should increase – but not necessarily by making those already full-time work longer.

What he said, however, doesn’t come across as either of those things. It simply sounds like Bush is accusing American workers of being lazy and telling them to lean in to that grindstone.

It’s a terrible mistake to make for a candidate. At least “grow the pie higher” and “put food on your family” were obviously just incoherent. Being just smart enough to use correct gramar and say something that appears to make sense, yet not smart enough to avoid totally botching your actual meaning, is a bad place to be if you want to be President.

Clunker, just so you and everyone knows…the 113th Congress (the House) schedule showed fewer days in session passing laws than were spent on junkets, flying to the home district or just taking the week off. The last Congress (House side) was in session for 113 days out of the year which works out to (bites tongue and calculates some higher math) 2.1730769 days on the job per week over the course of the year (2014 that is). I guess to Jeb that equates to a job well done and worth some time off… Two (as in 2) days a week on the job and at a salary of $174,000 per year.
Guess who I think could put in a few more hours.

Does he really want the job? If he were trying to sabotage himself what would he do differently? It’s baffling, the number of facepalm-worthy comments he comes out with.

Heh, Jeb’s trying to out do Trump in his “mommy jeans” sort of way.

Jeb’s 47% moment? Because we don’t need to reduce the unemployment rate…

Sure, Jebby, let’s consider this… right after the folks in Congress start punching a clock and have time cards that read 40 hours per week.

Heh. Of course, that’s provided you can even FIND a job - if you’re over 50 or under 25, that is.

His attitude to the working folk of this country reminds me the the character Boxer in “Animal House,” (EDIT: Oopsie obviously meant “Animal Farm” here) the cart-horse who always responded to problems by saying “I will work harder.” Eventually he foundered and the pigs, while saying they were letting him retire, sold him to the knacker man to buy whiskey. Cold mofos, but not as cold as certain people can be.

More hours for less pay. That’ll fix the Bush economy right up. Right, Jeb?

I know it isn’t fair to blame family members for each other’s actions, but this is reminiscent of Barbara Bush’s comments about the New Orleans’ residents after Katrina.

Yea, I know this schedule and have been around for a few other “do nothing” congresses-- But thanks for posting that so some others may-- These present overworkers in the congress are just hoping we’ve forgotten their past performances so they can start over with the vitriol – I could just SCREAM !!!

Yeah.

A grocery store, for fucks sake is having a jobs fair in a suburb of Wichita to hire 30 or 40 people at 10 dollars an hour and I’ll guarantee you there will be 5 or 600 people who show up praying they’ll get a shitty part time job with no fucking benefits because they have no alternative.

It makes me wanna puke.

He is done. He’s a dead man walking.

Most people I know that are underpaid are already working more hours for less.
All this “recovery” has gone into the pockets of the rich not the middle class or poverty folks.
And no, it is NOT socialism to want the playing field to be more level than it is now.

That is exactly how the Republican party sees American workers, regardless of what lies they say in their defense.

I think that the lesson here is that there is nothing that a Republican can say that is too crazy for the Faux News base that all of the pres. candidates are trying to appeal to. Slavery was great for the economy. It’s only a matter of time before one of those asshats says that we should reinstitute slavery in order to stimulate the economy. And the dunderheads on Faux will fall over themselves saying that how great an idea it is.
