Former ambassador to the Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch calmly dismantled Republican staff attorney Steve Castor’s line of questioning centered on the idea that Ukrainian officials were out to get then-candidate Donald Trump during the second half of her Friday hearing.
I was going to ask if Steve Castor is the best that the Republicans could get. I think I know of a castor that could run rings around their Castor everyday of the week, and twice on Sunday.
So, will the Republicans put on actual witnesses to provide evidence of all their conspiracy theories? Or will they just proclaim them as established because they questioned witnesses about them (who either denied them or didn’t know WTF the Republicans were talking about) and because - the ever-so-valid-and-convincing - “people are saying that …”?
I get the feeling Castor watched footage of Wednesday’s hearings and read the reviews of how pathetically his his ‘cranked up chihuahua’ schtick came across. Decided to forgo a repeat performance.
You have to admit, it’s pretty damn funny when they float these bizarre (and thoroughly debunked) conspiracy theories only to discover that smart people don’t watch FAUX Snooze and, thus, have no idea what the hell they are talking about.
Republicans are sooooo stupid. They honestly think the best defense of Trump is to point out all the people who hate him and/or think he’s dangerous. Like, yeah. You’re right. There ARE a lot of people who say they’d never support Trump, some of whom risked their careers to stop him or report his misdeeds. How do you imagine this makes them look like the bad guys?
And the real issue is that they only supported Trump to spite liberals and are now ashamed of everything he says and does. By talking about Trump, it means you’re attacking them for supporting Trump. Trump openly says this is the key to his support and it’s true.
Maybe so. He looked foolish on Wednesday, and today, he is throwing soft balls. I loved how the R’s first praised Yovanovitch at first and then, in the most obvious way, we all knew they were going to try to pin her down somehow. When you watch her face, her eyes get fixed in the most professional way, and you know she is not going to be moved by the phony smoke.
This is what I saw during my lunch break, and thought that Castor didn’t have any enthusiasm for the line of questioning. I concluded the questions had been given to him by a very whiny bottomed Donald Trump.
Going forward, “victimhood” will, more than ever, be the horse that the GOP will ride, independent of any of the actual testimony of the witnesses the Dems have called, are calling and will call.
It wasn’t a fair fight. If you listened to her resume, the breadth of her experience, the years of foreign service sometimes (mostly, even) in the worst imaginable circumstances, you’d have to know that any Republican on this committee or Republican-paid attorney who tried to actually engage with her on the issues was going have their head handed to them.
