As much as I admire folks willing to do the hard work of parsing grammar and syntax, the average angry white Republican fighting for his privilege doesn’t care and the news media is all about reporting the outrage, not parsing the validity of the outrage
In the world of bothsiderism, a misplaced apostrophe equals calling an entire island of human beings garbage
U.S. Archivist Colleen Shogan and her top advisers at the National Archives and Records Administration, which operates a popular museum on the National Mall, have sought to de-emphasize negative parts of U.S. history. She has ordered the removal of prominent references to such landmark events as the government’s displacement of indigenous tribes and the incarceration of Japanese-Americans during World War II from planned exhibits.
I hope someday in the near future that MAGA becomes the subject for one of these exhibits about the most shameful eras in U.S. history.
I’d much prefer a Biden “gaffe over a Trump meandering nonsensical cluster f*** word jumble where you need a Jane Goodall or word maven William Safire to decipher it.
I saw it noted elsewhere that Biden’s intent was to call TCF’s supporters’ language garbage and the following phrase sort of makes that point, but the RW decided to hear what served them best.
We shouldn’t kid ourselves. Biden’s flub will do some damage. Morning Memo wouldn’t be pushing back so hard if that were not the case. We can expect to see it in campaign commercials until Election Day. But fortunately Biden isn’t the nominee and Harris can minimize the damage by kind of gently throwing Biden under the bus. It’s unfortunate that it has come to that though.
Some anecdata for y’all:
I went to opensecrets yesterday to see how people in my workplace were donating (we are a Fortune 200 company):
Donations to Kamala Harris: over $16k
Donations to Donald Trump: over $1.7k
Same with my sister’s Fortune 100 company (based in a swing state):
Donations to Kamala Harris: Over $44k
Donations to Donald Trump: over $1.7k
While I know individual donations don’t necessarily mean votes, it’s very promising. Look up your own place of work and see how people are donating their money.
If I were a VA voter, this would just piss me off to where I’d go out and stand in a golf ball-sized hail storm to vote all the bastard Republicans out.
Yes. I’m sure there are lots of Americans out there who were just about to vote for Kamala Harris, but then they heard that Trump supporters are garbage, and so out of sympathy for those poor poor poor deplorable pieces of shit they change their vote.
No. The damage is the media thinking that this is a story, and treating it as such. That’s why the pushback.
No it’s not okay. We’re supposed to be better than them, at least when a party leader speaks in public. Kamala is presenting herself to voters as a contrast to Trump. That contrast disappears if our leaders use the same vile rhetoric.
What we say to each other here in the confines of a partisan forum can be different. We can speak truth; they’re garbage. But we’re not trying to earn votes.
Yeah, apparently that one always works … if you’re a Republican. A local man tried to register his dog as a voter. Got picked up by the County Clerk (who is now Secretary of State). Got off with less than a wrist slap, after great publicity of his unlawful and outrageous action.
Honestly TPM. Harris gives just another exceptional speech on the Mall to an overflow crowd of 75,000+, and the MM leads with Biden’s ‘gaffe’ that wasn’t really a gaffe. If you parse what Biden actually, tho haltingly, said, he called Trump’s comedian supporter’s comment ‘garbage’, not all Trump supporters. Mission accomplished MAGAts. Grabbed the headline again.
In one of the more enduring puzzles of the last half-century of American politics, American citizens routinely and consistently rank Republican presidents, and Republican Party elected officials in general, as better stewards of “the economy.”
It’s not a puzzle, it’s the fucking media. They both sides everything and never challenge right-wing lies.
A good example is that a poll a couple of months ago said a majority Americans think the US economy under Biden is the worst it has been in 50 years, when opposite is actually true.
So why do they believe a counterfactual? Because the Republicans like Moscow Mitch and Member Johnson get up and say things like “the horrible Biden economy” and the fucking NYT, WaPo, CNN, and the others report that they said it, without challenging it or correcting it. Would it kill them to follow a statement like that with something like, “Member Johnson’s statement is an outright lie. Here are the facts.” Or at least ask a follow-up question about why the economy is so horrible, and when he lies, point out lie.
If we had media that actually do their job, fewer people would believe the bullshit.
