You Know What's Really Garbage? Tired, Old Political Reporting Tropes

They’re collecting their paychecks, aren’t they? Isn’t that all that matters - making the sociopathic corporate overlords happy (h/t Dear Hubby)?

True. But it allows MAGAs to say, “Both sides!” and those of us who actually care get to agree with Jeff Bezos that the mass news media is losing trust … just not for the reason he says.

It’s infuriating.

I already posted this on yesterday’s MM, but I thought that I would post it here too. We always can use a musical interlude.

I can’t look at the name Thurn und Taxis without thinking of Thomas Pynchon’s “The Crying of Lot 49.”

But that’s probably just me and a few people on this board.

I guess I have a weird take on this.

  1. At the MSG rally one of the warm up acts called Puerto Rico an island of garbage. We are parsing that to mean the island is a garbage dump, it seems more reasonable to interpret that as calling Puerto Ricans garbage. The contradictory and disjointed denials from the Trump campaign just highlight that fundamentally they didn’t care if he said something like that. His history shows that his “comedy” is composed entirely of racial animus.
  2. We bicker about why Trump supporters still vote for him. Regardless, GOP politicians and the base are not openly disavowing the racist attack. Just saying it was a mistake to have it at the rally.
  3. Biden said something that can be interpreted as calling Trump supporters garbage.
  4. Are people who stand around and tolerate blatant racism not pretty trashy?

If the GOP doesn’t want to have people think they’re trash, maybe they shouldn’t act like it.

This is the deplorable bit all over. Sure the mockrage machine cranks up, but it simultaneously appears that both the base and the leadership relish being thought of in this light. So which is it. Are you offended by this, or do you relish knowing that you offended Democrats/Liberals.

I think the point is for people to recognize the decadence. And the obscene wealth and prestige (many people are impressed by castles and defunct noble titles) that can and do exercise a great deal of power. Alito and Bannon are just two people in the network of reactionaries the “princess” oversees.

Didn’t the Heritage Foundation actually propose t5he original framework for what later became the ACA? And now they’ve made their only goal to destroy their own idea because it was passed by a black guy? If everything shakes out after this election, I hope Kamala is able to take religion out of the classrooms and put critical thinking and social studies back in. And on my wishlist is maybe bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, because getting lied to every damn day is not helping our country.
