pbs has a documentary on joe McCarthy that is well worth viewing… sounds like il douche is repeating that bit of history… McCarthy died of alcoholism when he was 48. I had no idea he was that young.
trump is imploding, as his dementia only accelerates; but the question is will he be ousted before he does everlasting damage to the country.

Pathetically, this country has a love affair with gangland mythology – no doubt a result of Scorsese and Coppola’s great bromance with the idea of mobsters. But the reality is a good deal less sparkly, andt even if it were glitteringly romantic, neither the Donald nor his father were anything other than willing pawns. No different from Trump’s relationship with the Russian mob and his role as money launderer/cheap chump wannabe.
And believe me, Donald Trump doesn’t talk like a mafioso. They don’t talk.

Cohn represented Fat Tony Salerno and I don’t remember the details but apparently Cohn managed to get Trump to buy concrete from Salerno at inflated prices. The art of the deal.
But what Trump got in return was no problems with the unions. Salerno was the don of the unions, the FBI suspected that he was behind Jimmy Hoffa’s killing. But none of this makes Trump a mob capo. He’s the guy who pays protection money so his bar gets its deliveries and he can stay open.
I’m from the Bronx and half Italian and the world when I was a kid was filled with jerks who were suck ups to guys they thought were in the mix. Assholes like Trump. People like Fat Tony Salerno chewed them up and ate them for lunch.

Yeah we watched that. It was an American Experience (I believe) piece and excellent.
When people feel compelled to constantly remind us about Trump’s cultists, I now think about McCarthy’s who were with him to the bitter end and it was bitter since he died of alcoholism.
I hadn’t realized he was that young either or what he died from. All I can say is - GOOD.

The US invades Iraq, bestowing upon it the blessings of sovereignty and a free and democratic society. Sometime during the two decades since, the sovereign states of The United States and Iraq negotiate treaties between themselves to address issues of US troops in-country Iraq, including retention and withdrawal of our troops, recognizing Iran’s sovereignty.
A few days ago, Iraq exercises its sovereignty, asking that US troops be withdrawn. The US exercises it’s even greater sovereignty and tells Iraq to fukov.
We’re so cool.
