Working Families Party Now Endorsing Sanders After Warren Drop-Out

The progressive advocacy group Working Families Party (WFP), which had initially endorsed former 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) before she dropped out of the race, endorsed Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Monday.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1295818

The WFP is useless and needs to go away. They destroyed whatever base they had by taking orders from their grifter bosses and now they’re trying to close the door after the horse has bolted.

This is old News.

The news is (1) Democrats deciding to Take the Country Back (with the only Political Party capable of combating the GOP) and (2) Dealing with coronavirus.

WTF is WFP?

This is similar to trying to bail out the Titanic with a thimble.

It’s a somewhat odd look to me to endorse your second choice, whose campaign is in serious condition, before your first choice does. Strategically, it seems like you’re sticking your neck out for not a lot of upside.

"Together, we’re going to build a multiracial, multigenerational grassroots movement to sweep Donald Trump out of the White House and transform this country so it works for all of us to expand the Democratic Party’s big tent coalition so that in future elections, younger generations’ and others’ progressive ideals and viewpoints will be heard, carry influence and shape our future for the better…”

FIFY…it’s over Bernie…but you can still build a lasting and useful legacy if you just stop for a minute and think it through.

This is true, and I wish he would, and I hope he proves me wrong, but I’m afraid he’s not capable of chilling.

I’m sure their voter will take note of the new endorsement. Best of luck with that.

Has anyone asked Bernie what he means by “political establishment?” I assume someone has, but I’ve missed it. Is it just a catchphrase at this point? Seems to me that establishment just refers to long time party members. I guess “establishment” must be shorthand for “corrupt party that refuses to consider change,” but I’m not sure how that applies to a party that let him write some of the new nomination rules.

Don’t know the answer to that, but I think you’re right it’s just a catchphrase at this point.

It refers to everybody who isn’t voting for Bernie Sanders.

socialisT workERs partY?

We need at least a third party in this country, if not a 4th or 5th. The 2 party system isn’t working. You’re either a Nazi (aka Republican) or you’re a Nazi-Light and you’re taking over the Democratic party because you’re just not a big enough POS to keep up with the Nazi’s in the GOP. We need parties for the wings, and at least two for the middle, and maybe one for right in the middle. The current system seems to have unfortunately resulted in quite a large asymmetry between the # Nazi’s in this country (about 25% of the gen pop) and the # of Nazi’s holding positions of power and authority.

Working Families Party:

“Bernie Sanders has been a lifelong champion for working people. He wants to make healthcare, housing, childcare and education basic rights, reform our criminal justice system, protect and expand Social Security and take bold action on climate.”

Heresy, I’m sure.

It’s a progressive party, more or less.

Right-wingers call it “Marxist”; others may feel a need to do so as well.

The current Attorney General of the state of New York entered politics on the WFP ticket. Everyone likes her for going after Trump and his crooked enterprises … but now that I’ve revealed her “Marxist” roots … well, I just hope it doesn’t get too confusing for those who have praised her to the skies.

Warren has declined to endorse Sanders or 2020 rival Joe Biden. “I need some space around this,” she said during a press conference last week. “And I want to take a little time to think a little more.”

I’d expect nothing less from Warren.

Meanwhile in “things that actually matter”. First list of VP candidates I have seen from within Biden-world…

Ignore the cabinet stuff, focus on VP names
