Without The Senate, President Biden Would Have To Adjust Expectations

As Democrats watched their opportunities to take back the Senate evaporate one by one Tuesday night, an increasingly likely future came into focus: President Joe Biden could take the White House, but Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) would keep hold of the Senate.

Of course we’d rather have the Senate and under McConnell Biden won’t be able to appoint judges or have some of his appointees confirmed. But he will be able to stop the outright destruction that Trump would perpetrate. And Biden would stop the firing and torture of the most capable govt. employees. In other words, better a sharply constrained Biden Presidency by about a million to one vrs the alternative, which is sure to be destructive to the things many of us care about…

Just means we focus on prosecuting corruption thru the DOJ.

Biden needs some successes in two years and they won’t come via legislation. He can start with declaring a national emergency and defunding some federal projects in KY.

An Executive can do a lot, just with a sharpie.

I am well aware of what Biden will face with the GOP Senate and a Right Wing SCOTUS. But the removal of the toxic presence of Trump will be as if we have just left a Battlefield.

I fully expect McConnell to block everything he can to prevent Biden from having any real “success.” Likely no judges will be confirmed and possibly cabinet appointees.

In addition to whatever executive actions Biden could take, the Dems should be passing small, tightly-focussed and well-written pieces of legislation. Things that can easily be “sloganized” with clear benefits easily described. No grand gesture, sweeping pieces of legislation. Then when McConnell blocks everything from coming to a vote, the campaign ads are already pre-written for the mid-terms and hopefully holding the House and re-taking the Senate. Then the final 2 years of the first term could be “revolutionary.”

Biden should just sanction Elaine Chow’s entire grifter family. Mitch doesn’t give two shits about Kentucky. He’s too busy standing in Elaine’s Chow line.

With a Biden Presidency and no Trump to bow to, possibly bipartisanship can make head way.

Alternatively, with a Trump second term, R’s don’t have tp kiss his ass for their next election, possibly bipartisanship can make head way.

I admire your optimism and hope it comes to pass but I’m not ready to bet on it.

Well that worked out well for Obama…

McConnell will allow exactly nothing to pass as long as he’s majority leader and the President is a Democrat. No confirmations for judges, cabinet members, anything. McConnell knows one thing: Anything bad that happens over the next four years gets pinned on Biden. He’ll make sure that nothing good happens under his watch. Nothing!

And… the people will fall for it yet again.

It’s all ok man. As Trump showed us, there’s no limit to the power of the Executive.

How often does Trump run things though the congress? Precedent has already been set for ruling by fiat. I would like to nominate myself as acting secretary of giving Mitch Mcconnell the finger. I will happily show up whenever the senate demands something from the White House.

Pollsters can talk all they want about under and over performing as if some mysterious thing they couldn’t foresee happened.

THEY GOT IT WRONG. Period. Again. It is now the de facto conservative plan to lie to pollsters, and it was already happening in 2016. All undecided votes votes, apparently, also broke to Trump and the GOP.

I’ve been telling myself to add 5 points to all GOP polling results because lying to pollsters + foreign tampering for Trump, and I think I was closer than they were.

it’s not just Joe that will have to adjust expectations… if the Senate stays red then I give it until Feb when people start complaining that Democrats haven’t done anything💀

Well Mitch will be a little weaker this time around come January 20th.A small glimmer hope.
