These are not bright people. There is not a single person I know in the community or in my extended family who loves guns that I would consider a beacon of intellect. There are a couple, however, who I would consider functioning psychopaths who are itching to kill someone legally.

Trump desperately needs a distraction so that this election isn’t simply a referendum on his abysmal performance in office. The media seem to be playing along with this. Reality check: almost nobody is affected by street violence in two cities, but everyone is affected by the pandemic and the worst economy since the Great Depression.

We had a mini-caravan of pickup trucks drive into my small town of Port Townsend WA over the weekend, horns blaring. It was ostensibly a rally to “support the police” but there were plenty of Trump banners. Not all were outsiders, there were a few locals involved, but I think most were from out of town.
The “caravan” wasn’t violent, just honking and shouting. One lady driving a truck had a rusty cage in the pickup bed with a big “ICE” sign on it. That was cute. Some of the local women lay down in the street to block the trucks at one point.
Needless to say, it didn’t go over well in this very liberal town that went overwhelmingly for Bernie in the 2016 primary. I guess the organizers thought we were a soft target for “owning the Libs” on a nice sunny day. We’re not at the violent confrontation stage out here, but this idea of pickup truck caravans to stir up trouble is clearly spreading. This wasn’t a normal political rally.

Weaponry evidently isn’t forbidden at protests here, because the police were keeping the two sides apart, but it absolutely should be. Who can feel safe exercising his First Amendment rights with AR-15s pointed at him? This is outrageous.
