Republicans in Wisconsin’s GOP-dominated state legislature are pulling out all the stops to keep their state’s new liberal-majority Supreme Court from weighing in on two redistricting cases brought before the court quickly after Justice Janet Protasiewicz was sworn in this year.
Only a third of voters (33%) believe Republicans want to impeach Protasiewicz because they “believe she did something wrong and should be removed” while nearly half (46%) think it is because Republicans “are upset their candidate who could have helped them hold on to political power didn’t win.” Even 14% of Republicans believe it is because their party’s chosen candidate didn’t win.
33% are listening to their local talk radio, because they couldn’t point to anything she’s done wrong any more than the party can point to something.
I think the real consensus is the remaining opinions - they didn’t win; they can’t keep power. Ergo, she must go.
The survey, which was conducted September 7-10 by the national polling firm GBAO, also found that Democrats are more united against impeachment (80%) than Republicans are in support of it (55%).
Is Vos really looking to supercharge WI Dem anger just in time for the 2024 election? Cause it sure looks like it.
The WIS GQP is evil. RoJo is still the Senator, in spite of all efforts to the contrary. Tammy Baldwin is quite popular so they have a tougher road on that one (haven’t even heard of an opposition candidate yet, TBH, but I haven’t been there in a couple of weeks).
It’s worth noting that the voters who voted correctly do not see this as an attempt to overthrow the will of the people, merely a proper restoration of power to those who ought to have it.
Voting is just so much Librul, Commie, Socialist, Groomer, nonsense!
I read that Politico piece just now and I can’t decide if its somewhat of a puff piece trying to buck her up for publicity’s sake, or if its truly a balanced piece that gives her Democratic opponent a fair shake. I think its more a bit of the former. Q*bert has been in trouble in her home district for some time but the article didn’t seem to impress that on the reader all that much. She’s suddenly trying to avoid sounding like a crazy person back home though, so she must have some reality tugging at her to clean up her act.
And then like you say, there are these other stories out there about her getting kicked out of a show in full view of the public for bad behavior. So, who knows?
Her life is such a mess. She’s just really immature. Being part of the Chaos Caucus in Congress tends to reward her immature behavior, but since she barely squeezed by to get elected the first time maybe the Dem. running against her this time has a decent shot.
The head of the Dem Party of Wisconsin, granted an opponent of Vos, said that there is an uproar in Wisconsin on this SC impeachment and the GOPers are getting lotsa cals. But he may be shinin’ on us. Whatever, if they impeach her but do not ‘try’ her IF she resigns can Evers reappoint her (like happened with TWO of the Tennessee Three) or can he appoint somebody else to fill out her TEN-year term (like it would last NINE years).
My late mother came from Wisconsin, and I have several cousins living there. I was delighted to see that her county, Columbia County, went for Protasiewicz, It usually elects Republicans. I can’t believe those previous R voters are thrilled with this impeachment talk. My mother followed her mother’s lead and voted R in presidential elections until 1964. From that time and through 2020 she only voted for Dems.
