The possibility of a pre-November purge of 150,000 from Wisconsin’s voter rolls is back in play, after the state Supreme Court indicated Monday that it was taking up a lawsuit brought by a conservative group pushing for the removals.
Aren’t there liberal/left groups that could start doing mass challenges to presumptive Drumpfpartei voters? Where’s Antifa’s legal arm? Where’s William Kunstler when you need him?
Everyday the RepubliCON party proves that it is an organization in its death throes. This ride is going to get rougher and rougher before it’s over. Hold tight!
I bet that if you sent registered letters to every republican in offering them the chance to save america by electing democrats that a whole lot of them would be returned as undeliverable.
Imagine, for a moment, that “those evil Democrats” decided to revoke licenses to sell guns from anyone who didn’t respond within 30 days to a letter sent to them in the mail.
Well, it may not make much of a difference. It’s not unusual for states to periodically purge voters from ages-old rolls. Many names are ok to remove as they have moved out of state, passed away, are in prison, changed their names due to marriage, are overseas in the military, etc. In fact, if the roll in question is over say 2 presidential elections ago, likely 80% or 120,000 of the 150,000 would no longer vote as noted anyway. Not that good but…
.
However, in other states (not sure about WI) the republiscums have pushed for post-card retruns after virtually every election, a sure sign of b.s. on their part.

It’s cute when journalists cling to the pretension that shit like this isn’t already in the bag.
That judge should be disbarred if he sits this case. There’s no such thing as “unrecusal” and his bitterness over his loss and the clear disparate impact the purge would have on people who fit the demographics of those who voted against him taints the entire thing. The WI Bar and the ABA will sit back and say nothing though because they’re controlled by money, not ethics and the law.
I’ve lived lots of places and never “unregistered” to vote in those places when I moved away. Wouldn’t lots of these names be for people who are not actually even there any more? Students, come to mind here too.
I would hope that if he engages in such a naked power grab as he is exiting, that the replacement justice would simply grant reconsideration and reverse that ruling on August 2.
Voter registration cannot be illegal. The actual casting of a ballot can be illegal if one is not registered where they actually live.
We know how all of this is going to fall out. The justice that was voted out by WI voters in the April primary originally recused himself. He will use this as his parting shot to flip the bird to the voters, now that he’s off the bench.
We have to get everyone registered who wants to vote. it’s that plain and simple. But simply being registered is not illegal or enforceable at election time; it’s if that voter tries to vote, using that registration, that’s the problem. And most of those cases that have actually been prosecuted have been committed by Republicans.
The problem with same-day voter registration is the length of the lines during a pandemic. And you have to bring a state ID with your correct residence along with a proof of residence that matches the state ID.
Since I was already registered to vote in Wisconsin, when I applied online for an absentee ballot, I only needed to provide an image of my driver’s license. Since it matched the address on record, I did not need to bring a separate proof of residence (like rent receipts or property tax on home or utility bill). If you are new to the state, when you get a driver’s license or state ID, you have to present proof of residence which typically requires rent receipts or property tax receipts on home or utility bill.
