Republican Wisconsin congressional hopeful Derrick Van Orden was slapped with two fines for bringing a loaded gun to an Iowa airport last year, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
He and Cawthorn and all the other GQP crazies who try to bring guns and knives onto planes should be in the NFL.* Instead, they all seem to get a small fine and some stern finger-wagging.
A $360 fine? Weak penalties for being reckless and dumb will not change a person. I am unsure of what penalties were available to the judge - but it seems the appropriate penalty for being this stupid would be a temporary loss of liberty and a permanent loss of his firearm.
“He fully cooperated and apologized to TSA for adding to the stress of their job, thanked them for the work they do keeping us safe, and it has been fully adjudicated.”*
If true, this would suggest a civilized guy, the stereotypical “nice Wisconsin man.” What ever became of that species?
TSA seized 5,972 guns at airport checkpoints last year, but that’s out of about 674 million passengers. So you apparently have to be in the bottom 0.0009% on the reckless cretinism scale.
Tomi Lahren posed with yoga pants from Alexo, which were designed to carry a handgun in its front. People sounded off on Twitter against Lahren for keeping the gun in the front of her pants.
Given the other things going on in the courts, I wonder how long it will be before one of these bozos tries to “make a federal case” of a stunt like this?
I felt like a total ass the one time an agent identified a pocket corkscrew in a side pocket of luggage I hadn’t used in several years. How do these idiots function not knowing where their guns are?
Some of these people never leave home without their armaments. And some people never want to be more than 2’ way from their firearm, it’s for protection after all. Which I wonder if some journalist would comb thorough the records at their local PDs to see how many firearms are stolen out of unlocked vehicles?
