Wine Cave Owner: ‘It’s Not Fair’ He’s Been Dragged Into Dem Fight

Craig Hall, who owns the wine cave at the heart of the Democratic feud between Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, said that it’s “not fair” that he’s being used as a “pawn” in the struggle.

More like the “whine cave”.

“Craig Hall pointed out the environmental benefits of the wine caves, and said that the practice dates back to the Romans.”

All that history and the possession of the cave in question and he can’t figure out how to use the perfect opportunity to shut up. So now the whine meme is alive again.

“It’s Not Fair” cried the millionaire.

“Come live in my world for a day” laughed the single mom.

We didn’t want this to see the light of day. Why do you think we held it in a cave in the first place.

Nobody but Warren and a handful of people close to her care about this. Yet another example of Warren’s inept tone-deaf politics. She’s a horrible politician who needs to stay in the Senate where she can actually do some good.

I don’t understand his complaint. No one is criticizing him for offering the facility, as far as I know. It’s strictly a fight between two candidates in a Primary.

The “wine cave” is nothing more than a memorable meme, not a slap at him. But if he’s saying this as an angle for some free publicity, that’s fine far as I’m concerned.

Yeah, just think of all that horrible publicity he is getting, people who never heard of the wine caves, now know it’s a thing. /s

That being said, if this is the worst spat between these candidates, then I’d say we’re in good shape. This is nothing compared to the poisonous invective Bernie Sanders hurled at Secretary Clinton.

I’d wager Warren doesn’t care either.

Should be grateful for the publicity

Well here’s a thought…

Just up the prices of your Cabernet and make larger donations. Perhaps you can become a bishop in the struggle or at leas a rook.

I’d advise against going the castle route however…it wouldn’t be a good look for you.

Actually, there are some of us Dems who care about who gets access to Democratic politicians.

Fundraisers are always done at private houses or public places. This is something that’s unremarkable for any politician. If there’s a $25k buy in, that’s something. But jeepers, no fundraisers at all? That’s stupid.

I like her policies, but this fake criticism just rang hollow. Buttigieg’s response was the right one - that she shouldn’t be setting up purity tests she can’t pass herself. It was a dumb move on Warren’s part, and I’m surprised she thought it would be effective. Adding it to the other false steps she’s taken, I can see why her poll numbers are dropping.

All politicians have to raise tons of money. I wish it were not so. I applaud Warren’s and Sanders’ focus on fundraising only from small, individual donors, but I don’t think they should slam fellow Democrats who follow the current rules. Campaign on changing the law, not on criticizing colleagues.

Without intending to, I suspect, you’ve made the case for why independently wealthy people should run for office. Bloomberg comes to mind but he’s not the only one who wouldn’t be beholden to anyone, and he’s a generous Democrat as well, giving millions to Dems who’ll be defending their House seats next year.

I don’t have a problem with wealthy politicians. Who else has the time to spend? The rest of us are just trying to eat and pay bills.

The reason why this Wine Cave thing will resonate with ordinary voters is that it was exclusive and excessive and over the top in every way. $900 bottles of wine and crystals in a cave? Exclusively for the ultra wealthy donors who have been Buttigieg’s backers from the outset of his career. If this is supposed to be a winning strategy, I have to ask who is advising him? Mark Penn?

However, I suspect that Buttigieg’s people know full well that he has zero chance of winning the nomination, so they are just filling their bags and his campaign chest so he can make a real run for some state-wide office once he’s gotten his haul. Now that’s a Harvard move.

clears throat “Actually, a rook is considered to be worth five pawns, while a bishop is only three, because a bishop is restricted to squares of one color, while a rook can attack…”

”Hey, who let the chess geek out of his cage again? smack smack Get back in there, you!”

I have to confess that I do not have a wine cave, But I am not envious, because as a possum, I have a pilsener pouch!

Is it really a feud? Doesn’t seem like it to me.

Wine technology pretty much reached a pinnacle in terms of consistency for export and standard palates. Basically, three companies dominate the winery supply business. You don’t even need land, just money, and you can be producing several thousand hectoliters a year of consistent good wine. They’ll even design your label and bottle, as well as get you into Trader Joe’s.

So a few years ago, we start to see the natural wine movement emerge. Very hit and miss. Everything from paint thinner to nectar of the gods.

The Guardian describes natural wines as "smellier, cloudier, juicier, more acidic and generally truer to the actual taste of grape than traditional wines.

Hear that, Natural Democrats?
