Will Hurd’s Advice To Fellow GOPers: Stop Saying Racist, Sexist And Homophobic Things

Good luck with that. Especially with the Offender-In-Chief.

Fat chance. For the MAGA GOP that’s RINO talk.

You might as well tell them to stop breathing.

This is like mentioning that the warehouse has been in flames for several weeks at your exit interview.

I’m not going to shoot the messenger and parse Rep. Hurd’s generally-accurate statement at the nitpicky level, but you’re always going to find yourself accidentally saying racist, homophobic, sexist things from time to time if you think racist, homophobic, sexist things. And if you don’t think those things, you don’t just accidentally blurt them out.

The Republican Party’s problem is one of beliefs, not of messaging.

"then there won’t be a Republican Party in America,”

I just love the sound of that!

Well, that would be the entire vocabulary of the Right. Sure silence is golden, but I’m not seeing this ending the way he thinks it will…

take our conservative message to communities that have never seen us or benefited from us.

Yeah, because like meth, when those rural communities that have never ever benefited from conservatives get a taste, it has to be pried from their cold dead hands.

So, I have a few communities here in California that have never benefited from the conservative message. You’re welcome to ship in some conservatives to form a colony, but within a few years, they usually relax and become Californians themselves.

That would be great for our country, but it’s not likely.

Saying racist, sexist, and homophobic things has become their brand.

So the quitter tells folks how to do it as he walks out the door. The man’s disconnected from reality. There is no conservatism anymore and no one other than pols and rich folks benefit from Republicanism. Why’s he quitting? Because no matter how much the fool want’s to fit his skin will ALWAYS make him a Black square peg in a round GOP hole. That’s what Republicanism is all about. The only thing that unites the Right in Texas is being anti-Left. Anti the other. They aint pro anything that will connect with the folks that dumped them. Don’t let the door hit you in that ass coward.

“And that requires folks in the party to take our conservative message to communities that have never […] benefited from us.”

That is a stunning admission.

The fact itself is well understood; but his admitting it is stunning.

IOW, drop trumpian talk, and pretend that you are decent human beings.

After 30 years of indoctrination of mean spirited policies and language from Rush
After 25 years of indoctrination (same as above) from Fox
After 11 years of indoctrination (same as above) and full crazy-town rhetoric of the Tea Party
After 18 years of gaslighting ala Bushco WMDs and conntinuing ever since
After 4+ years of full cultist crowds hollaring back at the cues to demonstrate their perverse meanness

Good luck with that.

Good advice but bigots gotta bigot. It is however good advice. May give a couple of Rethugs pause. Gotta start somewhere.

Instead of several weeks that should be since 2009. Remember that whole RNC autopsy, outreach (Rand Paul HBCU debacle), and Trump’s “my African American”?

How about stop thinking that stuff…

“If the Republican Party doesn’t start looking like America and being appealing to all Americans, then there won’t be a Republican Party in America,” said Hurd, the House’s only black Republican. “And that requires folks in the party to take our conservative message to communities that have never seen us or benefited from us.”

Shorter Hurd: if voters don’t like the GOP, you’re not brainwashing enough of them.

At no point does he suggest that the GOP is unpopular because its policies are unpopular, or that changing its positions on some issues might improve its standing with some groups. Nope. Just sell this product that everyone hates into more markets.

I’ve got a new slogan for the Republican Party: “There Are Dozens of Us!”

Ya. It’d also help to stop passing laws that leave unwhite unmale people worse off.

Unlikely. You’d have better luck taking away Trump’s phone.

It’s quite a slip. But he misses a big point. Many of those communities haven’t just failed to benefit but have been deliberately harmed by the modern GOP. LGBT haven’t benefited a damn bit from them but they have been kicked in the face by them. I could go on. And it seems this clown hasn’t benefited much either. That’s why he’s running away.
