A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.
Democratic leaders are reportedly looking at punishing far-right Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) after he posted an anime-style video depicting him killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over a week ago, including a censure or even stripping him of his committee assignments, according to multipleoutlets.
Hope they do MTG Gosar…not that I am sure if it really makes a big difference at the end, because all MTG got out of the deal is more time to lie and agitate…
Guillen, who was already apparently the least liberal Democrat in his chamber, denied that his decision had anything to do with the new map.
I don’t know about anyone else, but lately I find myself wistful over the days when “conservative” did not mean “belligerent support of severe personality disorders.”
No doubt forming an advisory committee to steer a disciplinary board to formulate a policy proposal for a vote before a select team before forwarding to leadership for a closed vote of the gang of 3 and a half.
With Gosar and MTG about to be removed from committees (and yes, MTG already is), should the GQP take the House next year, what’s the likelihood that no Dems will be allowed on the committees in revenge for these two?
Not saying these two shouldn’t be removed - they should be kicked out, with all due respect - but I can see the House being entirely run with no input from the Dems, should the GQP be in control. Heck, I can see the Dems’ keycard access just not being activated.
The Election Assistance Commission wasted no time in responding to the Cleta Mitchell appointment:
For Immediate Release
November 15, 2021
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission issued the following statement:
The 2002 Help America Vote Act, which established the U.S Election Assistance Commission (EAC), also created a Board of Advisors to the EAC serving a variety of discretionary functions, including review of the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines and other advisory duties. The EAC does not make or approve appointments to the 35-member Board of Advisors. Board members are directly appointed by a wide variety of organizations, including but not limited to the National Governors Association, National Conference of State Legislatures, United States Conference of Mayors, and the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
For questions surrounding the appointment of a member to the EAC Board of Advisors, please contact the appointing organization directly.
The question is: what twisted affiliate organization that gets a seat on that Board of Advisors put forth the disgraced, felonious Mitchell?
The senator claimed that Trump had made infrastructure “a real priority” in his administration, “furthered the discussion” on the issue and thus “helped Republicans like me think differently about the positive impact of investment in core infrastructure.”
This is so disingenuous. I understand that he said this to try to fend off (some of) the death threats heading toward his office, but to claim that Trump is some sort of Bringer of Wisdom regarding infrastructure, that, golly! Portman had only thought of infrastructure in not-so-positive ways, is just so stupid, coming from a Republican.
Lincoln initiated the building of the Transcontinental Railroad and the land-grant university system while there was a literal war going on.
Eisenhower initiated the Interstate Highway System.
I’m sure there are other examples, but those are the best-known, and from two pretty-good Republican presidents, at that. But the party’s cultural memory is so shaped by Trump that this is the kind of thing people like Portman are obliged to do now.
I don’t remember – was MTG replaced with another, less blatantly obnoxious GQPer? I am not sure that removing her meant removing "her"GQP vote, if you get what I mean…
(I am certain someone here is sufficiently well informed about this to provide us with the correct answer… I am too busy/lazy to go looking for the answer myself )
I don’t really mean to sound like Eeyore, but… if we don’t put a number of GQP Reps behind bars, shortly, and if we lose the midterms, I don’t believe such considerations are relevant, any longer. We won’t be living in a Republic any longer. I believe we’re in an existential crisis here, we win, or our Republic dies.
